I'm not really a Jordan or basketball fan, but there was a really good article on him turning 50 on espn.com (http://espn.go.com/espn/story/_/page/Michael-Jordan/michael-jordan-not-left-building). It talks about how insanely competitive he is, and how this is both the source of his success and the root of many of his problems.

The Jordan Rules was a really good book.





Edit: Playing for Keeps was the book I was thinking. That was great. Jordan Rules was also pretty good though.

Being under 10 and loving basketball obviously I was a Bulls fan. I cherish getting to watch most of his career just slightly less than watching Mario's. I was up late and SportsNation was running their Top 50 Jordan highlights and I remembered so many of them like it was yesterday and it brought me back to my childhood seeing clips from my Bulls Championship tapes and Jordan videos SI sent me, that I would constantly watch to get pumped up for games. I soured on him after playing for the Wizards and the Bobcats fiasco, and more after his HOF speech. I dont like hearing about Lebron passing him, in my mind it'll always be MJ. Much like I've always said about the Gretzky/Mario debate, Wayne may have had more points, but Gretzky could never score goals and do the amazing things Mario did. Lebron is great, but you just dont see him pulling off the moments Jordan did.

How was he polarizing? Most people seem to think he was one of the top 3 players ever (if not the best), extremely competitive, and a bit of a jerk in the process. Can also count me as one who hasn't watched much basketball since he retired.
