Was at the game. It was frustrating seeing the team miss lay ups, free throws and turning the ball over but they were able to win and that is what’s important.

I just loved at the end of the game the pasty white guy for Hall (who from view in 211 looked like Ollie from Hoosiers) score a slam dunk. When that happened there was a conversation going on in back of me that went like this:

Guy #1 Why would Pitt do that? Why would they let him score like that right at the end of the game?
Guy #2 Who cares, it’s the only time a white guy will ever score a slam dunk.

Not going to lie, I loled.

I had a good time at the game. They did win and I enjoyed the atmosphere. I like because of the weather and the late start the crowd wasn't as big and as a result no one was sitting in the row I was sitting in.

I expect Pitt will lose to a team they shouldn't... possibly in some new kind of soul-crushing way that we should see coming, but will still be sickened by it.

Hanging out in Key West with EPP seems like a better idea....even you'd have to hear about how WVU is better.

They're running out of ways to crap the bed to lower-seeded teams in the tourney.

I don't think they're quite tapped out yet.

I love the fact Pitt beat a quality ranked teams in a game that went back and forth all night and your still finding way to complain. Amazing, just amazing.

Anyways if they get bounced in the first round who cares? To me as long as they make the tourney i'll be happy.

At some point, just making the tourney isn't enough... it's not like this is some podunk school where earning the right to lose by 30 to the top seed is an acceptable goal... I don't expect Pitt to compete for the NC on a regular basis, but it would be nice to not see them lose to a lower seed for once.

both. im not a pitt guy, but as ive said earlier in the season, this team is decent. if they can get their FT% up, they are a sweet 16 team. i think thats where they max out...which is a great season, no matter how they play against that sweet 16 team.

seeding is pretty arbitrary come tourney time, for a lot of instances. they arent a NC caliber team and that expectation isnt really fair given the talent of the nba-talent-producing powerhouses. i think they could trend that way if they build off of this season and dont get swallowed up by the up and comers in the acc like miami.

You're right. I shouldn't expect them to live up to their seed once in awhile, because it's all arbitrary, after all.

The 2 biggest disappointments to me were the loss in 09 to Villanova when they could have reached the final four (granted, they were likely going to get stomped by UNC anyway, but still disappointing) and the Butler debacle. That was by far the most favorable bracket they are likely to see and they found a way to blow the game in a fashion only Pitt could accomplish.

But I suppose I should just smile and pretend they aren't going to disappoint us again come March.

This is why Dixon will never leave Pitt for a school with actual expectations.

a seeding (outside of the 1s, 2s, and maybe 3s) is based on a ton of things that are outside the control of what happens on the floor. i dont disagree that the 09 team, iirc the 1 seed team?, should have made the final four, but all number 1 seeds "should" make the final four and that rarely, if ever, happens. nova wasnt a slouch team and, upon further researching, the elite eight was the farthest that team has gotten in 30+ years--disappointing, but successful nonetheless. every year has a ton of great teams play just good in the tournament and isnt necessarily one thing that was their downfall, but a culmination of little things--missed FT, bad calls, turnovers, etc. while i understand that the mentality should be national championship or bust, for 98% of teams in the NCAA, that is a silly barometer for success (2% being the Duke, Kentucky, UNC, UConn (during the calhoun era at least), Kansas and flavor of the decade teams like Florida, Ohio st, Indiana, etc where there is a large influx of capable talent). It could be argued, and i agree to some extent, that the 2009 team had the potential to be in the latter grouping, but they needed 1 more 5 star/nba level player.

coming from a dude that has seen championships and final four failures, i would take losing in the elite 8 over the final four any day of the week--its just gut wrenching, stanley cup finals failure levels of sickening that you can harp over 1 bad call or 1 bad play and beat the analysis to death. i've always wanted the final game to be a best of three for that very reason, but that would never happen given how many games they already play.

Not that it was the reason pitt lost at all, but that flagrant call was absolute poop. He didn't even touch him lol
