Dave Molinari @MolinariPG
Former Penguins D Mark Eaton has been released from his professional tryout contract with their farm team in Wilkes-Barre.
Released so we can sign and call him up, I'm sure.

Maybe the isles pick up with B Strait out for the year.
no clue for him being with the pens. Unless...a trade, he retires as a pen?

Well it sure as hell wasn't to sign him. He was awful and injured in WBS. Praying that I never read his name on this board again.

Shero wants to see him practice with NHL players for a few days see if he's worth signing. If they do sign him though, send Despres back to WBS to actually play, kid is getting screwed right now. But I'd feel a lot better with Eaton-Despres in the playoffs if Bylsma continues to not let rookies learn and gain confidence during the regular season.

He and Letang are going to switch identities and do the whole Travolta/Cage Face Off thing, and then we trade him to Anaheim for Corey Perry.

Well, this is certainly a rather bizarre turn of events. I don't get Shero's thinking that Eaton "might" be able to help the Penguins whatsoever.

Now that, my friend, is a MASTER plan!

If we play Mark Eaton over Simon Despres on any level of hockey I might have an aneurysm. What is going on? Is this a bizzaro world where Mark Eaton has suddenly become 5 years younger?

I believe we have tongue in cheek Mark Eaton to Sid's wing reference

Was hoping he was just going to sign a one day contract and retire with the team he won the cup with. Guess Shero sees somnething in him we are not.

Maybe Shero is close to or entertaining the idea of moving a defenseman for a winger and he wants a vet like Eaton to be the 7th defenseman for the time being?
If Despres or Bortuzzo were moved, somebody has to sit on the press box as dman #7. Maybe he'd rather have Eaton in the press box not playing than one of our young guys from WBS.

This is the only thing that even remotely makes any sense. I have a hard time believing he will be playing over Despres, Bortuzzo, or even Engelland at this point. It makes my head hurt.

This is exactly what i was thinking. If the rumors are true about shero and minny, it probably involves a dman on our current roster... which would open up a spot for a 7th dman with experience ... enter eaton.
