Its actually whatever precedent and the team that possesses the player's rights says

Precedence has nothing to do with it. It would have been a factor had this contract dispute been escalated to arbitration.
His team can agree to his offer, make a new offer, trade him or wait. Regardless, he has, in fact, reached the point in his career where he can choose not to sign if he does not accept the terms offered to him. Or "hold out", if you want to call it that. But the truth is that his team is holding out as much as he is, by refusing his terms.
This is simply a disagreement between he and his team. I can understand why some may disagree with whatever terms he's rumored to be demanding, but I do not understand the vitriol. Wishing harm to him? That's deranged. Time to get some help.
Disagreements are a normal part of business. It's not like he's reneged on something he's previously agreed to, like what used to happen in hockey.

Idoit40fans wrote:He is an Av right now whether or not he has a contract. He has turned his back on the team because he wants to be paid like a 30 goal scorer. He's scored just over that in 3 seasons. He wants to get paid off of one good year, and if he actually thought he was worth that money, he would be playing this year on a one year deal and getting paid for his performance.
