Same here. I just figured any roster filling out that needs to be done because of trading during the draft would be via free agency. Otherwise you're adjusting draft numbers.

Well this is basically the same thing as having the last pick in the draft.

I don't know - I confused myself.

My point was he doesn't just suddenly get a 10th round pick because he made a trade.

I think you guys are right though

If he doesn't get another pick, then maybe one of his farm picks should become an MLB pick and his farm goes back to 20. Thoughts?

My understanding is that farm players can only be acquired through the draft or trade?

My understanding is that you enter the draft needing a certain number of mlb and farm players. If you make a trade involving picks mid draft, I would think it is up to that owner to make sure he adjusts his draft strategy to make sure that he gets 20 farm players. The MLB portion of the roster can be filled in via waivers once the draft is over. I guess you could also add farm players via free agency, they just need to be from the 2012 draft class or later. It's not a big difference from adding picks to the end of the draft, but it is different. All teams that are trying to fill in their post-draft rosters (whether from traded draft picks, change in spring training situations, or injuries) should be on a level footing (ie, waiver process). Just my two cents.

I was under the assumption that there would be no more than 220 prospects (20 max per team) in the league at any given time. So if you traded prior to the draft/season you'd be able to make that up during the draft but if you traded a prospect during the draft then you'd be short.. For example LITT and I made the Eaton (I drafted him as a farm player) for Freese swap where we were each under the assumption it would allow LITT to carry 21 farm guys for the season but I'd only have 19. Had we made such a deal prior to the year then we each would've been stuck to 20 prospects.

For MLB guys traded during the draft I don't think it's a big issue if a team needs to make up for losing a guy. Just add a pick to the end of the draft for them to meet the roster requirements and its basically the same exact thing as filling it in with a FA.

I believe you fill the roster out at free agency not at the end of the draft. You compete equally with people filling dl spots.

Agree with this and agree with Beerman's analysis on having a total of 220 farm players.

If that lineup pans out, he should be able to stay in more games, so it should help bring ERA down a bit and increase ks.
