The businesses are paying all of the extra pay. That is not the issue at hand. The problem is that when the businesses repaid the Pgh Police, the money wasn't deposited back into the fund that it was taken from. the money went to a 3rd account under the supervision of Nate Harper rather than the finance dept. This special account had debit cards that higher ups used and allegedly Ravenstahls body guards had cards as well which were used for travel expenses.
why WTAE put this list out is beyond me since the amount of OT worked isn't the issue at hand. It's all about shady accounting practices with the money that was reimbursed back into the police department.
So then, the real issue for confusion in the thread is terrible and reporting and the op cut off the last part of the article. I was confused as everyone else as I understand the reason a cop working 100 hours per week might not be a great idea in theory but nothing illegal.
It's alluded to in the last paragraph that is not the problem, but they also don't go into detail on what you said above. COPS OT! $171,000! Just gets reader and viewers but doesn't tell the entire story.
