Just curious... could you provide your list of talented, A-list actresses who are also really, really, ridiculously good-looking? I can't imagine it being very long.

Its almost nonexistent. I can name numerous actresses that are more talented or that are better looking though. Thats the point i'm making. They don't stand out. Its like an athlete that does nothing especially well but does nothing poorly. Lets say Mat Cullen. They don't stand out. I don't understand why she is getting hype. It was going on before her nomination.

And to answer your question, Jennifer Connelly is perfect as far as i'm concerned.

i think a more apt hockey comparison would be js giguere. wont go down as an all-time great but was good enough in a specific season to win the Conn Smythe.

I will say, the only time where I looked at Anne Hathaway and...ahem....thought she looked amazing was in that promo photo for Catwoman. Good God that was nice

Anne Hathaway always looks like the most beautiful woman on earth, or a dirty foot. Absolutely no in between.

I never saw Tron. I just knew it was the only one where people played snake. The problem is that someone can broaden the premise as much as they want to match.

The point is to change that "or" in your first sentence to an "and," and then see how many less people you come up with.

That may be your point, but I don't really care. My point is that I can't see how Jennifer Lawrence stands out among her peers in any way. My whole thing is that I don't understand what draws people to her, I don't know what she has.

Eternal Sunshine

Exactly. Eternal Sunshine was a romantic dramedy. There are plenty of those that sucked. If you get into the details of the movies, mainly plot and also presentation, Love Happens, Silver Linings Playbook, and Eternal Sunshine aren't similar at all, though they all happen to more or less fall under the same genre.

If you haven't seen Winter's Bone and/or SLP, it's tough to make an argument that Jennifer Lawrence doesn't stand out.

Actually, never saw SLB either, but everyone in it can act.

Assuming that Love Happens is bad without seeing it is different than assuming SLP is good without seeing it? And Aaron Eckhart and Jennifer Aniston are both good enough actors.

No, that's pretty much the same scenario, you're right. And agreed, especially with the former -- Eckhart is solid.

But assuming SLP is bad because Love Happens is bad is where the issue is, I think.

this is at least the 3rd time i've said this, and this will probably be the 3rd time it's ignored...i don't assume SLP is bad. it might be a perfectly pleasant movie, but i discredit it as oscar-caliber because of its un-compelling premise. and the fact that the culmination revolves around a dance contest certainly doesn't help.

If you're right she may actually be a witch and we're all under her spell.. I don't want to live in that kind of world. I mean, have you even seen The Craft? Yikes.

Clearly, you are unaffected. You are humanity's only hope.

because eternal sunshine is my favorite film of all time, i'd like to take a moment to remove it from this thread:

"After a stint in a mental institution, former teacher Pat Solitano moves back in with his parents and tries to reconcile with his ex-wife. Things get more challenging when Pat meets Tiffany, a mysterious girl with problems of her own. "

"A widower whose book about coping with loss turns him into a best-selling self-help guru, falls for the hotel florist where his seminar is given, only to learn that he hasn't yet truly confronted his wife's passing. "

"A couple undergo a procedure to erase each other from their memories when their relationship turns sour, but it is only through the process of loss that they discover what they had to begin with. "

one of these synopses is not like the others. one of these synopses just don't belong
