Great article in Canada's version of the NY Times on how Crosby and the Pens have dramatically increased youth hockey participation in Western PA.

Now why don't they carry this one big step further and construct a practice rink connected with or near the CEC that would also be used by city youth, high school and college teams and provide recreational skating opportunities? Even if it operates at a loss, the goodwill and creation of future Pens fans should make the investment worthwhile.

Not sure that you can do it connected to CEC. Surrounded by the arena is a church, Cambria Suites, and a sloped parking lot.

They had plans for the practice rink in Cranberry. Not sure the status of that plan.
