God forbid the Steelers ever go after someone outside the organization. Then again if they did that Willie Colon would be long gone.

Totally convinced the Steelers are gonna have some awful years ahead. They are keeping all their old and bad players and letting all the young, good players walk. And they are making a habit of bringing retreads back to the organization.

I'm sorry, but keeping players like Hampton, Harrison, Foote and now signing William gay while letting players like Keenan Lewis walk is not only bad, it flat out sucks....

I don't think the Steelers will be satisfied until half of their defense can apply for their AARP cards.

Bringing back Gay doesn't necessarily mean Lewis is gone but it doesn't make it look encouraging.

I guess if it came down to Gay or Breaston, I'd rather have Gay.

God I feel dirty writing that.

The secondary was actually coming together nicely prior to the rash of injuries that happened mid-season. Lewis and Ike were playing great.

The thought of exchanging Lewis for Gay makes me want to puke.

Gay won't be back as a starter. He'll likely be the nickel and he will be fine there.

I'm also not convinced Lewis is gone. We'll see.

I'm still waiting for the 'Great Purge of 2013' by the Steelers as Kevin Colbert said after going 8-8, you need to change. Hopefully Gay's signing doesn't cement the loss of Lewis because I'm not sold just yet on Cortez Allen as someone who is capable of starting and no way with Curtis Brown.

Gay was fine as a nickel back. Don't want to see him starting though.

Breaston will replace Wallace. Gay will replace Lewis. Any time you can replace young talent with old veterans that no one else wants, you just have to do it.

How are the Steelers able to negotiate / sign Willie Gay when free agency doesn't begin until the 12th? Is it because he was released from his prior team, therefore making him eligible to negotiate immediately?

Looks like the problem is that they're in such cap hell, that cutting Harrison, Colon and Kiesel wont help much anyway. They keep exasperating the problem by renogotiationg Woodley, Timmon and Roethlisberger every year, they're in this situation for the forseeable future.

Nothing has really worked out for them recently, and cause of that they look they're on a downward spiral. Losing Lewis and Wallace sucks, but the real problem in my opinion is Heyward and Hood being middling starters and the overpays on Colon (wtf), woodley and timmons.

They're basically in a "cross your fingers" and hope mode for the near term. But, you'd think it would be a given that guys making a lot of money would be good and also that first round picks would be atleast competent starters. So I guess if you trust the front office, you can trust the possiblity of a comeback season next year.

Cornerback William Gay, who was released by the Arizona Cardinals last week, signed a three-year contract to return to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team announced.

They have a lot of older, expensive players who clog up the cap and they're going to have problems until they can get rid of some of these guys. It started last year with Farrior and Ward and should continue this year with Foote, Starks, Hampton and Colon (if there's a God). I don't think any of those four are huge losses but it's a cumulative effect of jettisoning experienced players all at once. The real problem is it keeps them from keeping their own young talented players like Wallace and Lewis and instead means they have to get retreads. I'm sure the Patriots will be appreciative of the Steelers' generosity once they sign Wallace.

Oh man, fantastic PG pool question today in lieu of the Willie Gay return.

Which former steeler do you want to see them bring back: Hinesey, Sanantonio Holmes, Plaxico, Jeff Reed, or No Gay is enough.

Fortunately for pittsburgh None of the above is out ahead. But Hinesy and Plaxico coming in at 23% and 22% is pretty telling. I view the last option as a cop out, i voted sanantonio.
