Possibly, but..
“It was a good practice, but I need a couple more (before I play),” Malkin said.

I'd say Thursday in Philly at the earliest.

Weird that this thread seems to be languishing. Good news that Geno is already skating with the team with contact. Funny that he said in the interview that he did not have a headache(ha ha Rossi ). I guess no interest from LGP posters unless there is some sort of negative spin.

I guess I could point out that this is good news and then hope for 100 fellow posters to quote the "good news" part.

Weird they have Malkin practicing on the top PP unit on a game day practice.

Malkin also practicing with Cooke and Neal on a line.

I think he plays.

Also, looks like Kennedy is still in and Bennett is out. 'Cause, yeah. That's accountability right there...

Anger... rising...

Bennett and Despres need to play as much as possible to get as much experience as possible so they are ready for the playoffs. Also they are better than people who are left in there playing. That seems to be important too.

Despres and Bortuzzo rotated on the 3rd pairing in practice. I can't imagine the (totally justified) ****storm if Despres sits.

Also, that stellar Orpik-Letang pairing is still intact. Coaching FTW!

I think either Malkin plays tonight, or they're just getting him the time for the next game. There's no way Despres should sit. I don't see how Burtuzzo is the better option over him.

I agree with you 110%. But Kennedy is being showcased, hard to sell something you have sitting in the booth upstairs collecting dust.

Same goes for Engelland and why he isn't being benched in place of Despres/Bortuzzo.

Forget Bort even... is everyone else on D so amazing they can never sit?

And Orpik-Letang has been a proven failure. It sucked again in MTL.

Pretty sure Malkin is playing tonight. They have 2 days rest before they play on Thursday, no need to have Malkin so integrated in game day practice if he is not playing.

At this point, Kennedy's value may go up if he's not on the ice.

And Engo is not being showcased. He's perfectly fine as a 6/7 guy, signed for dirt cheap. Problem is DB is treating him as an infallible #5. You're giving DB way too much leeway here, where he's shown he deserves none in this particular regard.

I don't know why they got away from the Letang-Niskanen/Despres pairing.

I think Orpik can play with either one that doesn't play with Letang.

Yeah, I don't actually think that, but right now, the "showcase" is probably not going as planned, to say the least.

I'm not sure I like the thought of bringing Malkin in vs. Philly. The "Flying Zolnarsuck" is out, but Rinaldo is still there (loved Alfie croschecking his FACE) and they'd love a shot at Malkin's head, and might be able to goad him into something.

I see some rationale for rotating in and out players, but there are other guys who should sit/rest/observe for a game or two. (10, 48, 27, maybe even 44). If for no other reason than simply rest them in this compressed season. When you have 10 (not sure number, but was surprised when I read it) guys missing optional practice because they were sore/tired/hurt, then shouldn't some of these other guys get shots (Boychuk, Despres, Bortuzzo).

I really do not fathom some of the coaching decisions, but none of us hold all the "facts" and like Penny Lane said in another thread, its seems that everyone wants to be GM, I'm realizing that just being a fan is so much more enjoyable. Having all the news/data is just that, more info, it doesn't necessarily make you smarter....

On that point, I would agree:
If they were looking to showcase him (and I don't even know if that is/was true), it's probably not working out as desired.

i think giving kennedy a breather isn't a bad idea (despite him actually playing well against MTL - yes, really), but they're going to be sticking with him for the stretch run. i don't really see him getting traded, either. but that's mainly because even as a throw in, we have no one to "throw him in" with.

I don't know, I thought TK was bad against MTL.

Agree that he is a throw-in on any trade.
