Heard that one more than a few times, but I think it's nothing more than rumors.

From last year:

Richer, now a 45-year-old, happily married man and father, never enjoyed the limelight. Richer would later reveal in the documentary that he had even attempted suicide at one point in his young life.

and before he signed with the Pens:

He also squashed rumours that he is gay... his sexual preference had long been in the Montreal rumour mill. He said his bachelorhood was due mostly to not really knowing to love someone. I am not saying he's gay (and don't think he is. my gaydar's not going off) but just saying that being married means nothing. Rock Hudson was married. lots of times closeted gay celebrities will marry someone just to make people say, "see? he's married to a woman so he's not gay!"

I think being openly gay and married are mutually exclusive unless you have a very patient and understanding wife.

I didn't say he was openly gay. not he or any other NHLer is openly gay yet. another poster said, "isn't he about to get married to a woman?" and I merely pointed out that being married to a woman does not preclude you from being gay.

the title of the thread says the words "openly gay". I don't really think it's a leap in logic to think that's where the discussion would be steered
