Gotta dump Hampton next. Foote as well.
A LeBeau 3-4 base needs a big, athletic tackle and middle linebackers that can stop the run and get after the quarterback. What you're suggesting leaves us with Steve McLendon and Stevenson Sylvester in the middle with Timmons... In that scenario, from a personnel perspective, the Steelers can't field a 3-4 without adding some depth in free agency.
McClendon was a better player than Hampton last year and possibly the year before that. Both Foote and Farrior played in the 220 range; both dropped weight to increase their quickness. Sean Spence may have been the ideal player for them if he hadn't totalled his knee. His knee injury was such that it's quite possible he'll never play again.
