Philip Samuelsson

I se that he has the best +/- in WBS with +9. Is he close to be NHL ready, is it just "luck" or what is the deal with him?

Kovelchoo has a +/- of like -1 billion, is he NHL ready?
Someone who pays attention to WBS can answer this for you, but +/- might be the worst stat indicator in all of sports.

Yea, did not mean that the +/- alone was any indicator at all, that's why I asked, but it means that he, at least, have been in the ice for 9 goals for WBS ... which means he is at least playing, so is he a good offensive player, or a good stay at home d-man? etc. How is his play?

Not "close the NHL ready" but has improved leaps and bounds since his rookie season last year and is entering "prospect with value" territory.
A big problem with him is he turned pro too early. Just wasn't ready at all, physically and mentally He's been a lot more solid in all areas of the game this season, but still has a ways to go. Next year will be very telling in gauging whether or not he has an NHL future (here or elsewhere), as he should have a more expanded role. Playing on the 3rd pairing with Joe Morrow right now, but he's seen some spot duty on the 2nd PP from time to time, and has been solid on the PK.

Thanks Meecrofilm, nice to hear he is at least moving in the right direction, hope he can take the next step next year then!

He has a few NHL tools. He can skate at the NHL level. His is agile on his skates as well. He can develop into something if he refines his defensive game in terms of positioning and decision-making. Not overly physical, but strong enough and effective with the body when he is in the right spot.

He looked pretty good Saturday. Looks taller than his listed height, plays with poise.

He just needs to get a heavy wooden stick and get used to using it before he comes up. He'll be instantly loved in Pittsburgh.
