Is the Atlantic division having a down year?

Postby count2infinity on Sat Mar 16, 2013 5:02 pm

I just checked the standings for the first time in a long time. I'm used to all the teams being in the playoffs except the Islanders every year. Currently only the Pens and the Devils would be playoff teams (granted the first three out of the playoffs are all Atlantic teams), but even more surprising is that the Pens are the only team in the division with more goals scored than goals against. Have the tides turned from the Atlantic being the most dominant division in the east to now the Northeast holding that crown?

To the title, yes. To the last sentence, I don't think.

FHCMT should be the Jack Adams winner this year. He is a beast.

Paul MacLean has a solid argument to win it too. No Spezza, Karlsson, and they're still 5th in the conference.

Ottawa will fall off here shortly and won't make the playoffs. The only reason they are relevant is Craig Anderson.

FHCMT took a Montreal team that was utter rubbish and has turned them into a top 5 team.

It is Paul MacLean's to lose. Bruce Boudreau should be in the talks, as well.

I'm glad to see Boudreau having success in Anaheim while the Capitals toil in misery. I mean... I always enjoy some Capitals suckitude, it's just way better knowing that they fired Boudreau like 15 months ago and now he's in the talks for the Jack Adams (again).

MT, MacLean and BB are showing that coaching does in fact matter and a whole lot in certain situations.

I cannot believe Ottawa is still contending after their key injuries and a roster that isn't too impressive. I sort of expected the Habs to get a lot better in a hurry with MT installing his system and relatively not much talent to get in the way of implementing it, but they don't have a lot of skill on that roster and are young yet still are figuring out ways to win. BB has turned a franchise that was trending downward around quickly in Anaheim.

Stellar work by all 3 of these HC's.

I think with MT and BB, there's been a bit of a factor in play of learning from your past mistakes. MT seems just a bit looser, and BB seems to have tightened things up just a bit.

The reason I am against MacLean is the fact that OT loses are the only reason his team is relevant. They can't score and that will bite them in the ass. They are playing stellar defense and Anderson is the Vezina winner to this point, but I can't give MacLean the Jack Adams for a team that should be out of the playoffs but a broken points system has his team still being relevant.

Ehhhh...LA last year had dominant goaltending and couldn't really score. In fact, that might have been the most boring Stanley Cup Final in history.

This... what he's done with practically the same team as last year is at least as impressive as what HCDB did without Sid & Geno.

The year that DB won it, didn't we have an absurd amount of shootout wins down the stretch? Yeah I know, technically "wins," but still.

That is why I am separating it. The Pens at least won in OT and Shootouts. Ottawa can't even do that.

The difference is that OTT is stealing games because they have a goalie having an unbelievable year. I'll be surprised if he maintains it, but if he does, the goaltending coach should get the Adams, not the head coach. :pop:

Min. 5 starts, Ottawa has the top two goalies in save pct. Anderson at .952, Lehner at .946, Ben Bishop is a distant 8th at .924. Either Ottawa has three of the best goalies in the world...or their coach is doing a terrific job. I know what the real answer is...

Don't under-estimate the importance Armstrong, Prust and a healthy Markov. Plus Gallagher is on fire right now.

The first reply dealt with your original topic. That's pretty good
