Embarrassing Home Ice Conditions

Postby ron_duguays_hair on Tue Mar 19, 2013 10:34 pm

Tonight's game (vs. Washington) was plagued with horrible ice. It is like putting Dick Trickle in a Ford Tempo.

Crappy ice would be great if we were a team like Philly or NYR. This is unacceptable.

Step it up CONSOL ice crew!

They will blame it on last nights wrasslin event. In all honesty CEC is a union shop. This may take years to correct.

Anyway both teams are playing on it and it is not an excuse.

That's right. RAW. Anyway, both teams play on it but I feel like us fans are cheated.

Everything's going good so there's nothing else to complain about?

But to contribute to the thread, CEC isn't even the worst in the league. Not even top 5 worst, according to the players.

Well, yes both teams have to play on it, but the Pens are built for speed. Home ice is supposed to cater to your team, so it would be nice to have some of the best ice in the League. I hope it's just one of those things that take time to establish a way to best preserve ice after events like wrestling or whatever.

Why does it matter if we still win on it? What does it take away that clean ice would?

Back to back games there over the weekend and the WWE thing yesterday, I was expecting the ice to be pretty horrible for the game tonight.

I understand the ice sucks but after watching the Oilers often enough, i really wish we had an ice surface even sorta close to that.

I know it's probably not feasible but one can dream, eh?

Are you willing to put up with the minus holy mother of god it's cold temperatures here that they endure to be able to have that nice sheet?

Yeah, of course. I'm from Pittsburgh and love hockey. If i hate cold, then i think i'm into the wrong hobby. lol.

But i think the other events have more to do with the condition of the ice. That is why i said it isn't feasible.

not only is MSG a multi-use facility but their ice has always suffered because the arena is so far from the ground level. proper insulation plays a HUGE role in keeping your ice good and cold. they'll pour 2 whole new sheets when the Frozen Four comes to town (one for the tourney and one for after) so maybe they can get the problems worked out then.

Let’s see. The place is freezing (Pens say they keep it at 61 degrees). I have to keep a heavy coat on at all times. It has state-of-the-art dehumidifying system and ice-making equipment. And the ice is STILL bad? What is the explanation? Every NHL arena has plenty of non-hockey events.
