It has been reported that he's available. But the latter part of your post is the part that should resonate. We should never, ever trade with Philadelphia under any circumstance. Much less to take on a contract that we didn't want to give in the first place.

And we sure aren't going to give the Flyers any prospects.

If you do grab Talbot, does that make Cooke less needed this off season. Really, they look a lot the same. Able to somewhat move up and down the lineup, PK, adds a little attitude and should have comparable salaries. Difference is you have both for this playoff run.

Why would we give up assets to get Talbot when we could have had him 2 years ago for most likely less than what he is paid mow? This reminds me of how some are always looking for a way to bring back Malone.

You know, the Kjell Samuelsson/Ken Wregget/Rick Tocchet was a pretty important trade for the Pens during the early 90s. And then, of course, there were a bunch of really good players that have come through Pittsburgh post-Philly (Mark Recchi, Arron Asham, Mark Eaton to name a few).

I always thought it was Malone who starts the Malone rumors.

I just think Talbot makes sence with our needs. Also after wining the cup i want to hear Talbot say thoes imprtal words ala' Rick Tochett. "Pittsburgh is the best city in Pennsylvania"

Don't want Malone. I just see Talbot as a fit. I agree that we won't dance with Philly on this, but salary cap for this year is not an issue. He is familiar with the system and some of the players. If we gave a third for him and didn't resign Cookie, we wouldn't be any worse against the cap in the future. I like Matt Cooke and don't want to lose what he brings. I just think Talbot brings a lot of the same. Last thing I want to do is bring in someone at the deadline that doesn't have time to get comfortable. I think Talbot would fall back in with no trouble.

Talbot is familiar with our system, but he can't play in it.

The system is not geared towards players who only show up 2 months of the year (that's counting playoffs)

Cooke isn't the same player we signed so long ago. He isn't that bad boy who was physical and got in other teams faces. Talbot would give you a bit more now than what Cooke gives.

I watched Talbot against the Devils this week. Regardless of what player we get to help out the bottom two lines, I hope we get someone that plays like Talbot did in that game. I think he had more chances in that game than our whole bottom six usually have. Outside of Sutter, the guys we have don't generate the offense. I understand that Talbot, in particular, might not bring it every game over an 82 game season. That isn't something we should be overly worried about right now. He does show up for the playoffs and someone like him would improve our chances.

- Tochhet went Flyer, won cup with Pitt... washes out, he's even
- Talbot would/could/should only come back to the Pens if a 3-way deal is undertaken. Its Talbo..., 3-way or the highway baby, and he'd only be here for playoffs (trade after cup)

Our odds of winning, with TK out, have been greatly reduced.

Cooke never got in people's faces. It's not his game.
