ideal 4th line

Postby headh on Mon Mar 25, 2013 1:17 pm

would be
24, 46, 48

the additions of Malkin and Morrow should make Glass and Adams expendable. Also the first two lines are set as is. Morrow is toughness and goal scoring combination we haven't had in a while. He's perfect to be Sutter's wing and give us four lines capable of putting the puck in the net instead of just two.

14, 87, 9
19, 71, 18
Morrow, 16, 15
24, 46, 48

Roll all four.

In no world should Dustin Jeffrey be playing on any lines come playoff time unless someone is hurt and cannot physically play.

Not nearly enough penalty killers there.

what exactly is the role of the fourth line, and is it different in the playoffs?

to me it always seemed that they were supposed to go out there and:
1) try not to get scored on
2) try to score
3) since scoring is unlikely, try to wear out the other team by cycling and hitting

Our 4th line when we won the championship was a mishmash of Adams, Satan, Sykora, Dupuis, Malkin, Crosby, and Staal, especially after Gonchar was hurt and we played 7 defensemen. I seem to remember it was usually Satan and Adams (with Dupuis scratched) and Crosby or Malkin doubling shifting when weaker opposition was on the ice, and Staal out there with them to take on a more defensive look.

If thats the case you'd want a mixture of a little bit of skill and defensive responsibility.

I would go

Kunitz Crosby dupuis
Bennett Malkin Neal
Morrow sutter Cooke
Kennedy vitale adams/glass

Top 2 lines I think should stay, defensively responsible 3rd line with some grit and scoring, 4th line with lots of speed to get in in the forecheck

I like this better. The 3rd line would be really good, like 2009 when you know what happened! I have a feeling that HCDB will want to try Morrow with Neal, though, too.

Cooke can't play the right side, Kennedy can't play the left, Glass can't play the right side.

Kennedy has scored at least 60% of his goals from the left side :pop:

Considering what Geno/Neal need, Morrow fits much better on that line than Bennett. I don't understand the appeal of moving players from their natural positions.

Cooke is fine as a RW but Bennett has been a RW for a while before his callup

Kunitz-Crosby-Dupuis
Morrow-Malkin-Neal
Cooke-Sutter-Bennett
Glass-Adams-Kennedy

Sorry Joe.

Yeah, sadly if it comes down to which player that doesn't provide special teams help, i'm taking Kennedy over Vitale. It hurts to say that...and I qualify it by saying it shouldnt be so and that Vitale should be pking.

i predict our 4th line staying put for the majority of our time in the playoffs. i also predict that it comes back next year fully in tact.

right or wrong, i think bennett is the odd man out right now (and jeffrey of course).

I'm pretty ok with the fourth line as is, barring Shero bringing someone in.

So that means Kennedy and Bennett are scratched?
