Tanger

Postby bob vila on Sun Mar 17, 2013 9:13 pm

Any updates on 58? Was he slashed in the gooch? Couldn't really tell by the reply during the broadcast. Was a little worried with him being out but I think the troops held their own today against a top team. Hopefully its nothing too serious and he's back Tuesday.

Apparently re-aggravated a previous leg injury, according to teammates.

Such a weird play. It looked like nothing happened at all.

I'm assuming that it was unrelated to the play; he just moved the wrong way and aggravated an old injury.

Seemed to be the same groin injury he had before. If he's out for the week or so, do any of you think they may call up Morrow for a look see or just roll with what they have? Maybe DB will take the reins off Despres and let him play next Sunday against the Cryers.

that would be my guess, and my hope....Morrow would be nice to see too...but don't you DARE think that he'd have Morrow AND Despres in the lineup on the same night!

With 8 D-Men already on the roster, I seriously doubt we see Morrow. It would be nice to get Morrow a cup of coffee in the bigs, but more important is getting guys like Despres and Bortuzzo (especially) more games and more time in those games to prepare for the playoffs.

Despres is more than capable and he should be in the lineup every single game. If he's scratched at all in Letang's absence then Bylsma needs his head examined.

The team went 1-2 without Letang, including back-to-back horrid losses to NJ. They will miss him more than Malkin. Despres has a similar skill set but lacks experience. 7 has improved his game over last year to the point of it being day vs night (since I got on him so much using his number, I'm using it here to praise him when he does well); he's the most improved Pen by far, but doesn't have the full skill set of 58. No one else is even close. The real problem is, what if it's a recurrence of a previous groin injury and continues to dog him all through the playoffs? His effectiveness could be greatly reduced, and that could be the Achilles heel for this team: counting on 58 for more than he can deliver.

Also, please, not Engelland while Letang is out, at least not every game. Play Despres every game and let's see what Bortuzzo or Morrow can do. And finally, surely there's someone at WB/S who can deliver more than Tanner Glass while taking fewer dumb penalties.

Let's rename this thread "Letang Skates" in the great LGP.com tradition.

Let it not get to 58 pages, however.

I had a chance to watch the WBS Penguins against the Portland Pirates up here twice in two weeks and I have to say that Brian Dumoulin impressed me more than Joe Morrow. Morrow looked good (he's a great skater and he scored a PP goal) but Dumoulin looked even better skating out there, looked solid defensively and scored a nice one-timer on the PP. Plus he has good size. I would like to see him get a call up before the season is over.

They carry 8 defensemen for this reason. They don't need to call someone up. Slide Despres into some of his situations and distribute the minutes throughout the rest of the lineup. Its pretty straightforward. That said, i'm not all that optimistic that this is how it will happen. I'd bet against any callup though.

Renaud Lavoie of RDS says Letang could possibly be back as early as Friday. Secrecy around the injury isn't that odd though. Most NHL teams don't get much more specific than upper or lower body anymore, unless what happened to cause the injury was incredibly obvious.

Dave Molinari ‏@MolinariPG 13m It is not yet known if Letang, who has apparent leg problem, will participate in optional practice at noon, but he seems to be moving well.

If its groin, make sure its healed completely before coming back, these injuries can become chronic.
