Kind of a weird story...apparently the courts approved their asylum appeal, but the Obama Administration has appealed that court's ruling and is actively lobbying for deportation for the family. Not really sure what dog they have in this hunt? Amnesty for millions but we're going to deport an educated family of 7?

Apparently this is the first asylum case of its kind. Not sure why the Administration is pursuing this case so doggedly. Gaucho, maybe you can shed some light on the German views on homeschooling.

Not really. I couldn't really tell you anything that hasn't already been said in the article.

i can almost believe his explanation of being raised a long ass time ago, except he's a congressman. if it was some random 79 year old white guy living in a podunk town somewhere, i'd almost expect it, but hes got to know whats going on lately. i figure he's part of the republican group that says **** like this, thinking everyone who hears will agree.

Really glad you brought this to the LGP PDT boards attention:

(CNN) -- With the GOP actively working to reshape its image, it didn't take long for top Republicans to blast one of their own, Rep. Don Young, for using the derogatory term "wetbacks" in describing migrant workers from Mexico. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/20 ... phoneemail

Now if only the Dems would "police their own" the same way.

I guess that's good?

Cracking down on an idiot is like showing up to work on time every day and expecting to get a raise for your "efforts."

It sure shows that your attempt to paint all GOP members with the same broad brush was more than a bit disingenuous my friend.

So then we all admit that each party has their share of idiots?

That's acceptable.

I just get real tired of the arrogance of using outliers to discredit an entire party.

On either side.

i think the GOP painted themselves with that brush, and only just realized that it was a stupid move.

the D's are just lucky that a huge block of voters fell into their lap, and arent going away. they arent going away because things like this happen.

No, one individual made ridiculous statements, and the majority leaders of that party are making sure that he stands on his own. That his views will not be interpreted by others as being Representitive of the party as a whole.

As for Gaucho, see Kaisers comments above.

politically they are, but if this happened last year they would have clammed up and left him to his own explanations. but losing the election is the only reason theyre actively condemning this.

Applaud? Who was asking for that?

I was just asking that YOU show the decency to not ridicule or condem an entire party for the actions of one bigot.

I would suspect you'd want that same consideration for any group you're a part of as well.

For instance when Democratic Senator Robert Byrd's outburst of racist bigoted slurs, more specifically the "n-word," on national television in March of 2001, did you rush to say that the Democratic party as a whole was failing with respect to its public image?

I doubt it.

(In before someone points out that Byrd was representing WV) :)

The point is: No matter how much someone might claim to disown their crazy uncle, it only matters if they actually do it.
Take Todd Aikin, the money (and other support) flowed back into his campaign, once the GOP realized that they were probably going to lose the Senate again.

So the Dems took the leadership responsibility away from Byrd after his RACIST comment?

I'm just pointing out that it's a bit over the top to throw stones when one lives in a glass house.

ON EITHER SIDE.

DelPen, let's be clear, the party's themselves are both broken.

Anyone who has read this board for any length of time knows that I'm not a defender of either party. One party wants the government to get out of your wallet, yet wants the government to get into your bedroom. The other party wants the government to get out of your bedroom, but deeply into your wallet.

Both parties use giveaways to attract votes and maintain power:

Alexis de Tocqueville was right "The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money."

In no way shape or form should my comments be interpreted as defending the GOP or this racist in particular.

My comments were a response to the disappointment I feel when I see people I truly like and respect, try and cast dispersions on an entire party for the actions of a single individual.
