Who plays where has begun...

Postby Scott on Sat Mar 30, 2013 1:18 am

Seriously...

this is getting a bit crazy with the who plays where and with who and what...etc etc. It is actually getting to an all time high of being mentioned and Jarome has yet to even wear the black and gold sweater.

Let me say this. There are four spots that are solidified and rightfully so. Crosby, Malkin, Sutter. 1,2,3 centers. MAF in net. Outside of those four its a guess at best...but more to the point. WHO CARES.

Back when the Pens had a stacked roster in the two cup runs of 91, 92 what were the lines? EXACTLY. Mario, Francis, heck all of them played with so many different combo's during the same game.

You are going to see Iginla play on the top line, but you will also see Dupuis and Kunitz playing there too. You will probably even see Morrow have some time there too. It will be musical linemates and that is awesome. Because with this talent the other team will have a nightmare trying to scheme against set lines. I'm very excited to see it all come together. It was also nice to see Morrow providing more of an impact once he got settled in with his team a bit in the second game. This spring is going to be fun.

one last thing....the media has to be on cloud nine heading into the playoffs this year. They have not one but two very good/legend type players trying to hoist the cup for the first time. They will be all over that and its a good thing. I remember back when Ray Bourque was trying to get one with a stop in Colorado. The media was all over that. Turn the clock forward to present day and the media is 10 times more active.

Again, should be fun.

an addendum... what was our 4th line in 2009?

Spoiler:
it was spare parts from after deadline acquisitions... dupuis-crosby(double shifted)-satan

point being, or line-up has so many options

Craig Adams and his 24 games played would disagree :)

For the most part though it was Dupuis-Adams-Satan with some Sykora and dressing 7 D a few games I think until Gonchar was 100%

Crosby and Malkin were not double shifted as much as you might think. The issue we have now though is penalty killers. Dupuis and Adams got most of their time on the PK, Satan just plugged away and looked like he was having fun doing it, exhibit A:

We could have a similar 4th line now with Glass-Adams-Kennedy with kennedy doing whatever he's asked, which he will gladly do, and Adams and Glass (ugh) as PK specialists.

2009 had Staal, Cooke an Talbot in the top 9 forwards, we have Sutter, Cooke and Dupuis. Adams has to stay int he lineup, can Crosby, Vitale or Morrow replace Glass? I think anyone can play better than Glass but I'm not an NHL coach so what do I know?

But until we see Bylsma trust anyone more than Glass to kill penalties he won't be scratched either. So we get Kennedy, Bennett, Vitale and Jeffrey fighting for the last spot on the 4th line. Should be good.

Too bad we can't have 5 lines. Bennett-Jeffrey-Kennedy would be interesting :)

Someone mentioned he was hurting when he blocked a shot with his hand on a PK?

re: fourth line

DB has to determine if he wants to give up 1:24 SH TOI/G (Glass) or his best faceoff guy (Vitale).
If he wants both, TK goes to the press box.

Who plays where has not begun. It has never ended and never will whether when we had Fata,Rijeta,Koltsov etc or when we're stacked with quality forwards. It's one of the fun things for fans to pop off about and to debate over
