As long as his jaw isn't wired shut, i'm not worried.

Cool. Yeah, if his jaw is wired shut then that's a problem because you can't work out and nutrition is an issue.

I'm confident he'll be back for the playoffs...I'm just worried he won't be back to the level of play we are accustomed to. I know I shouldn't say that because he's Sid and he always proves us wrong, but I can't help but worry it.

God, why does something **** always happen late in the season just as we're hitting our stride? If we have another disappointing playoff exit, I don't know what I'll do...

Bright side is there's no chance he gets a concussion between now and May :)

If we can't keep winning with the players we have up front, well I don't even want to think about that.

As Bioshock said, much more worried about Martin and Letang too being out. I don't like having Murray and Engellend both out. Rather see a trade or Reese called up.

As I said in the other thread, Pens are justifiably over cautious at this point. I think Sid will be back sooner than we think.

Josh Yohe ‏@JoshYohe_Trib
Pens now saying Martin out 4-6 weeks as opposed to the 6 they said yesterday. That's significant. First round now possible for him.

Jo Innes ‏@JoNana

The thing about injuries is every single person is different. Brad Stuart broke his jaw and came back in a month.

Jo Innes ‏@JoNana

Pat Eaves broke his jaw and was out for months (in fairness he had a concussion too).

Jo Innes ‏@JoNana

If Crosby had surgery for a jaw fracture you’re still looking at about a month of mouth-wired-shut time. That’s a month of bad diet.

Jo Innes ‏@JoNana

That’s also a month of not really being able to work out.

Jo Innes ‏@JoNana

So it’s not impossible for Crosby to be back for playoffs. It’s also not impossible for him to be back next year.

Much like how they did with Sid two years ago, the Pens are good at keeping hope of players returning alive.

Long story short is this:

-If Crosby just had plates installed, He will be back and fine.

-If Crosby's mouth is wired shut, He's done.

Even if he comes back after having his mouth wired shut, he would be so out of shape that he could barely play.

As long as guys are back for the playoffs I don't see the issue. If anything, the injuries can have some benefit of keeping the team grounded as they go down the stretch. They're running away with the division and even the top spot in the conference, for that matter. They have a 15 game winning streak and are showing few if any weaknesses right now. But the playoffs are still a month away. I'd be a lot more worried about things coming unraveled at the wrong time if they had everyone right now than if they have to deal with some significant injuries over the next few weeks. I'd think it should be harder to develop bad habits when they're not necessarily winning by sheer talent overload. Kind of like they were doing last year.

Yeah, but if we're looking at the worst case scenario here Sid is not back for the playoffs.

That is why if his mouth is wired shut, he's done. You simply can't recover from that in that quick a time frame.

I hope to god it's just plates. If it is, then we can all praise god for good fortune.

Getting hit with a shot and breaking your jaw doesn't sound like good fortune to me. Sounds like pretty crappy fortune.
