Which is the team you'd take to win a seven-game series?

Although they haven't won anything yet, I'd have a hard time picking against this year's edition. I think they're better in goal but how do you pick against Mario, Jaromir, Ron, et al.

92-93 is hard to pick against, even though 1990-91 and 1991-92 didn't lose a best of seven series.

Is this a serious post? Answer is too obvious.

91-92. Because they didn't lose a best of 7 series unlike the 92-93 team and they had the experience from winning the cup the previous year as well.

92-93 if I can rescind the the Errey - Ramsey trade.

I loved the depth though on 91-92.

Why aren't 07-08 and 08-09 on the list? I'd still take 91-92 but I'd consider 08-09 as my #2 choice.

08-09 should be on the list because of the Cup. I don't think that 07-08 was as talented as the Cup winners.

I was thinking of comparing eras and couldn't pick the team from the 90s. I didn't think the 08-09 team is in the same class as this team. At least I don't think it is as good on paper but we all know how that goes as the 92-93 Pens found. The addition of Iginla and the top two lines had me thinking of the comparison.

Good questions though and if I were doing the poll over I'd add those teams.

Think about how difficult it was for the Penguins to win the Cup with how good our team was in 08-09. Hockey is certainly a sport where the best team rarely wins

92-93 best team we have ever had except maybe this one. I think the injury to kevin stevens was devastating for the team and may have been why we lost to the isles that year. I think this years team is a close second depending on injuries.

I can still see that moment after all these years. That was terrible and he was never the same again after that.

I think you can argue that the 2008 team had more talent than the team that won the Cup the following year, as they still had Hossa and Malone. It's kind of weird to look at the 2009 team and see that Malkin won the Conn Smythe playing with Talbot and Fedotenko. But that team simply had the right mix of players and hunger. It's not at all about what the team looks like on paper.

The 92-93 team certainly is a cautionary tale about what could be in the future for the current team. Just because the team looks amazing now doesn't really mean anything. One thing this year's team has going for it is that it should be very hungry to go deep this year after having minimal playoff success the last few years, plus a couple veterans at the tail end of their careers looking for their first.

Was Tommy B really that bad? I watched the playoffs, but I was like 10 years old and didn't have an eye for hockey back then. I grew up thinking he was a good but not great kind of jerkish goalie.

He just had the ability to give up back breaking half ice goals.

Tom had a habit of giving up really bad goals as can be said of Fleury but Tom was indeed a jerk.

This. Give Barasso a little bit of heart, and that team is unstoppable. Period.

That is EXACTLY right. That's why they play the games. Look at last year's team and the way they were playing at the end of the season. Who would have expected them to go out to the Flyers?

I don't think he was. You don't win 2 Stanley Cups being a bad goalie. He was streaky, but then he faced a LOT of shots on a regular basis. He once won a game in which he faced 65 shots. Yeah, 65. He played on teams that thought offense first and defense - about 43rd.

There was that one year where he refused to talk to the press for an entire year because they misquoted him. I love it.
