I've also tinkered around with an Apple II emulator. Apple II games were my first forays into heavy gaming until we bought our NES in 89 or 90.

I've been trying to get my kids into the emulator games, but with their DSes and iPods, Minecraft, they just don't seem to be interested. I get bored with some of the games, too.

Did you notice how difficult the games were? Not actually gameplay, but if you died...you started over (for the most part). I'm used to instant (or nearly instant) respawns in modern FPS, where you might have to wait 10 seconds to start off where you died.

I used to play a board game RPG called Car Wars. Basically, it was Mad Max and Dungeons and Dragons. The Apple II had a game called Autoduel, which was based on the Car Wars world. You scavenge an armored car, build a character, and run convoys or become a mercenary to earn money. Great, great board game...but the video game was unbearably difficult. You start with little money, and you have to enter in gladiator-type contests to win money to begin the game...but you get killed so easily in the gladiator "pits" that it isn't much fun. Then you start over at $0.

The Apple II sports games were great, though. Winter Games, Summer Games, and my personal favorite, Superstar Ice Hockey:

Number Munchers was clutch. There was some game on my elementary school computers where you were some elf dude solving puzzles or something. Never enough time to beat it

There was another game on the elementary school computers where you could choose some kind of sea animal (e.g. shark, barracuda, etc) and you got points/life by eating things lower on the food chain than you, but I can't remember what it's called. It really bugs me.

I was into this for a while and I'd get full sets of games for each system, but then I realized how much old 8-bit games suck when compared to the new stuff, so I lost interest. But you can download entire libraries of games, probably on torrents.

I played with each character, because I was mediocre with all of them. Do not like Street Fighter games.

Street fighter II Championship edition was the only fighter i really was good on. MK, VF,KOF,tekken,KI just didnt have the same juice. I wasnt a fan of the countless iterations aftwards with the street fighter series.

That or if you just google search "Abandon Ware" you can find a lot of old games that you played as a kid to download for free.

After Nolan Bushnell founded Atari gave Steve Jobs his first job, and the company created Pong, there was Space Invaders and Astroids. They were classics and predate PacMan, I remember dumping quite a few quarters into an asteroids machine at the Duncan Inn back in 1980.

What kind of crap DOS game is that? Is it like the predecessor or something?

According to wiki...that is, in fact Odell Down Under's prequel.

Yeah there was Odell Lake that was on the giant floppy discs. Then came Odell Down Under with a bigger environment and actual controls rather than text based input.
