Well either they are all insane or he's trying to blow things up hoping that the US will intervene and will get the country out of the hands of the military. Something will happen from their side more than likely, though it might be just something relatively small, compared to a (nuclear) missile attack.

"The moment of explosion is approaching fast," the General Staff of the North Korean People's Army said in a statement carried by the North's official Korean Central News Agency. "The U.S. had better ponder over the prevailing grave situation."

Analysts "think" they don't have a missile capable of reaching the US. Let's hope they're right.

Also, that's what she said.

This situation bears zero similarity to Iraq/WMD. What an asinine and idiotic statement.

What's more frightening is that are a few hundred South-Koreans sort of trapped in the mixed zone at the moment and the North has sent a bunch of vehicles and soldiers to surround that building apparently. This could lead to the South taking action to free their people and drag a number of other countries into it.

I honestly think the scariest part of the entire situation is that the citizens of North Korea have no idea what's going on. They've been told they're going to war and seriously think they'll come out the victors. They have absolutely no clue what's up against them if a true war were to break out.

North Korea is definitely the most fascinating authoritarian state in the last 100 years, IMO, primarily because of the incredible isolation of its citizenry. While a similar cult of personality existed with Stalin, the USSR was far too large for the government to effectively keep everyone from hearing from the outside world.

It's entirely hilarious (and at some level a little scary) that virtually no one takes them seriously. He's overplayed his hand a bit here, at least internationally.

If it doesnt happen today, we'll know its coming tomorrow

War could break out "today or tomorrow", the statement said, quoting a spokesman for the General Staff of the Korean People's Army.

That is exactly what they are doing. They want to scare the US enough to strike first, which means China would provide aid per their treaty.

China would likely whistle and look the other way.

China is getting fed up with North Korea. It's one thing to be an "ally", it's another thing to be a total PITA and taunting one of China's biggest trade partners.

I agree with Rocco, if something happened China would be saying "Treaty? What treaty? You're on your own, crazy boy."
