Big plus for the author's passion about his subject and a good column. Big fail for spelling Pittsburgh as "Pittsburg."

well, the US Government tried to make it Pittsburg in the 1890s, where one paper in town complied (The Press) and the other did not (the Commercial Gazette, later the Gazette). It never really took hold, and the original Pittsburgh won out. Worth noting the Press switched back sometime between July 30, 1921 and September 1, 1921.
