Preferred 1st round matchup

Postby WHITEY1 on Fri Apr 12, 2013 1:58 pm

With 1st overall at our disposal who is your preferred match up in round 1? It seems as though it will be one of NYR, NYI, or Ottawa. Would you purposely lose your last game or 2 to possibly determine your own match up even though you would surrender possible home ice in a later round?
I feel as though the Rags would give us the most trouble of those 3 teams. I think we would beat up on the Islanders and Ottawa, neither team has the depth or star power to take us down in a 7 game series imo. I would not purposely lose games at the expense of losing home ice advantage either...thoughts?

You should add a poll with Wash. Ottawa, Toronto, NYI, NYR and Winnipg as selections. Maybe even the NJD as a choice, but with Kovalchuk out i think they are done.

I think we could take Winnipeg and Ottawa with no problems.

Islanders and Ranger scare me for some reason, they could give us issues in the first round.

Ottawa.

I really don't want the Islanders or Caps. I think we can take the rangers in a 7 game series but it would be tough.

Rather see Boston have to suffer the Rangers first, them and Montreal are the only teams that I think could beat us in a 7 game series.

Isles, Caps, Jets and Sens don't concern me at all. hopefully it pans out like this:

Bruins-Rangers
Jets-Sens

Play for #1 seed and let the chips fall where they may. I want home ice for the ECF. And I don't like the message tanking games to get a specific team in the first round sends, we need to be ready to play anyone we face, not focus on fearing anyone.

I would just prefer a non-rival for the 1st round. I am just sick, especially in this East-Only schedule, of playing the Rangers, Islanders or Devils. Anyone but those three.....or Philly.......ha ha ha.

I really dont think the isle have any depth past tavares line. Also, with boston I understand they are big and all but I dont think they could beat us either. Montreal is my worst case scenerio at some point just becasue of how they play under OUR former coach. New Jersey is 4 points out and I dont see them getting any better at this point the teams that are out would need to play 2 games better than those ahead of them. Winnipeg has played 2 more games than the rags, ect. I think those who are currently in are staying in.

NO BAD JUJU HERE. We already have a spot. Your answer can be like the ROCK and just say IT DOESNT MATTER WHO WE PLAY. Our juju is in sids jaw as it heals we get good JUJU especially if he can eat JUJU bee's come playoff time.

Rags will equal closer games but I don't see them beating the Pens 4 out of 7.

Sens? Crush. 4-0, 4-1 max

Islanders may take a game or even two but no shot.

Bruins are a little overrated. We have some size to match them now. No fear.

Montreal and the Caps would be the top two "contenders" for a close series in my mind. Still not really afraid of either in 7 games.

This Pens team has the ability to play any type of game you want to play and beat you at it. Barring injury city and a Fleury spazout they are the team to beat. East or West.

Do not care. None of the possible opponents should beat us in a 7 game series. And if they do... welp, fire DB and trade the whole damn lot.

ANYONE but the Rangers. even if the pens beat the rangers it will likely be a long, hard, extremely physical series. i want the pens to have the easiest road possible to get to the cup final to stay fresh and healthy. playing the rangers and then the bruins (most likely scenerio if things stay the same) is extremely difficult and not the best matchup for staying healthy

honestly i am not scared of anyone in or around those spots.

The isles are playing better but i dont think their weird haired coach would be able to adjust to us in 7 games

Ottawa has little offense but good goaltending so who knows what could happen even though i am more than confident we would steam roll them

Caps would be the worst matchup because they are the hottest lower seeded team right now and holtboy can steal games. I prefer the caps to either win the southeast or miss the playoffs because then at the worst we wouldnt play them until the 3rd round

Winnipeg would be my choice because they are terrible. That team is so inconsistent and they are just playing bad. I am not going to wish to play anyone but if they played us i wouldnt be that worried at all

i think the devils are done but i wouldnt mind them because they are in a free fall but i would never wish to play against brodeur

And im not scared of the Rags, we have their number big time lately and we only lost once because we had all these injuries and people learning to play with new players. But the king can steal games too so who knows

They'll play who they play. Doesn't matter. Competition gets harder each round, you just gotta play the hand you're dealt. That being said, I'm hoping for the Islanders as we all know how good Nabakov is in the playoffs.

Basically, the meaning of this thread is the Pens are primed for an upset.

...as a first seed, there's no preference, no fear, because no one should be better than you.

I don't care who we play. I just want to bury whoever is across the ice from us.

I don't know about you guys but i want blood. I want the Pens to leave a trail of destruction through the playoffs that makes up for the past 3 years of injuries and frustrations.

Whoever shows up at CEC in May, just know this... You are a corpse that just hasn't died yet...

Go Pens...

Agreed. Besides, it's a bad luck to pick a preferred opponent. Ask Jagr.
