Yeah. His team let him down though by not playing to the whistle on the first and allowing him to get to the rebound uncontested on the second. He didn't have much of a chance on the third and was downright invisible on the 4th. ;) He was solid, but definitely outshined by his counterpart. I didn't see much of the tourney, so not sure how he played otherwise.

The Q beat Yale 3 times during the season. It's tough to go 4 for 4. Especially against a team that was hot and on a roll knocking off every top seed in it's way.

Goaltending is quite certainly the position in which our organizational depth is most lacking. It would not be very difficult to obtain better prospects than those whom we already have.

It is interesting to note that our AHL team plays great defense. With this in mind, regard Zatkoff's numbers. I would be interested in seeing if they are artificial, having been bolstered by the strength of the defense playing in front of their owner.

Yeah, I'm not damning the pickup... just saying what I saw... and in fairness, I didn't see anything until about halfway through the game. He obviously had to be good for them to be in the title game. Never hurts to add more G depth.

Yea, Hartzell played well. He stoned St. Cloud and played well for most of the Yale game. Its definitely a good pickup as it does add nice depth.

I'm picturing GMRS sitting in front of Hartzell locker right after the championship game. "Tough loss, son, but you played well. I couldn't help but notice that your collegiate athletic career just came to an end. Maybe I can help you with that..."

Hartzell one year deal is a calculated move on his part. Sign with a team that has a good AHL team so he can build up his stats have a winning record then call his shots after the season. He knows he will still have to prove his game in the AHL on any team.

Anyway, does he actually have a chance or this just a shot in the dark?

Won't believe this, but I had a dream last week the Pens signed Hartnell. When I quickly skimmed this thread just a minute ago I nearly flipped out

The fact he chose us over the Flyers is good enough for me.

Or it could have just been a requirement of the CBA due to his age, as Beveridge pointed out near the beginning of the thread...

It's required by the CBA. No more, no less could have been taken due to age.

He's an undrafted 24-year old, so he is no lock to make it to the NHL. However, he was a first-team all-american and finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. So, he's not exactly a shot in the dark.

official release says it's for 12-13 season?
The deal runs through the 2012-13 season and has an average annual value of $925,000.

Yup, for the rest of this season. Then he'll become an RFA.
