We already get frisked and wanded. What’s next, a rectal exam?

Let's hope not. When the Flyers come to town, games would NEVER get started.

I'm guessing they will now search purses and bags.

Probably should have searched purses and bags from the get go. I always thought the security when you go in there was fairly lax.

I always have the small purse I take to the games open when I go through the gates. It was only looked at once this season.

I always put my little bottle of rum in my sock, they never find it. I can't spend $37.50 worth of beer every home game i attend, over a year it adds up.

For years I've kept a small but sharp lock blade pocket knife in my jacket (I walk around alone in the city quite a bit, never had to use it). The metal detectors at either arena have never once found it. It'll find my keys just fine, but not the knife. Makes you wonder what the security is really good for.

They have been searching purses. My hope is they don't make you dump everything like at heinz field.

Maybe this will finally prevent the Knitting Lady from bringing in those spears she calls sewing needles. How was she getting away with that to begin with?

That’s an excellent example of why the searches they’ve been doing at the doors are examples of
Security Theater, not real security. They don’t check legs or ankles. If I theoretically wanted to carry guns into the CEC tomorrow, I bet I could get in at least three: two in ankle holsters on each leg and one under a hat (they don’t check headwear either).

I've always thought that the security at Pens games and most sporting events in general has been really weak. As others have noted, they never check your legs/ankles. We live in a crazy world, I don't really have a problem with some added inconvenience if it means some less chance of a crazy person bringing in a gun and shooting a bunch of people.

lol, cause the bomb squad in Boston that WAS HOLDING A DRILL IN THE AREA really did their job so well
i'm sure that the pittsburgh ushers will turn into jean-claude van damme should a threat walk in.

Hopefully before this thread totally derails, at PNC arena in Raleigh you have to empty your pockets into a bowl so they can check your stuff and walk through a full body metal detector.. I see security patrols all the time in there too. Much moreso than Consol.

If you know, how long does it take? How many entrances do they have, and how many detectors are at each entrance? Does that arena have more entrances than the CEC? I really don’t want the CEC to turn into something like the airport where you need to factor in an hour just to go through security.

I haven't been to the CEC, but I get to at least ten Canes game per year. I honestly just assumed that all arenas have you empty your pockets and walk through detectors? Even at or just before puck drop, it's no more than a minute or so process entering.

Nationwide Arena seems like walking into your own home compared to what you described.
They make you show them your waistband. Some nights they'll randomly wand a few people, but it truly is random.

I hate events like Boston because all it does is make people feel the need for "security" in public. I mean seriously, a person wouldn't necessarily have to enter a venue to cause havoc. Boston was an example of this.
But I am also looser with my personal security so I know I am in the minority.
In any event, people that are attending sporting events I hope still enjoy them!

I've never been searched or emptied my pockets going into any arena......I just walked in..
Hell, I got into the end of a world series game a few years back without tickets

I was searched and told to remove things from my pockets when I was at the Frozen Four, and I even had credentials to be there. So I guess security is hit and miss?
