Starkey calls him an "iconic Penguin"

I have mixed emotions with Orpik, he's done a lot of good here but he frustrates me sometimes

“You always knew what kind of leader he was on the ice,” defenseman Douglas Murray said. “But now I see. He is what you call a true professional. Nobody's going to outwork him.”

Brooks, you are on the clock to score a goal. iN Boston seems to be the perfect location. 8-) :P

D-men whose job is to shut down opponents, and who don't score, will do that.

No, I'm actually far more of a fan of those d than offensive. I've always loved me some eaton, scuds, gill, etc....

I actually like Orpik a lot, just seems like he can struggle a lot and it go unnoticed if he lays a big hit

Pens still need to trade him to sign others after this season or maybe next... his Cap hit is more than he is worth

That is highly debatable. There are not many that play Brooks style of play and do it as well. Those that can play like that, get paid well for it. I believe last night they said he was leading the team (or just the D) in hits and blocked shots. His +/- isn't too shabby this year either. Before 'Crankshafts' arrival he was the lone physical presence on our back end. It was well documented he took quite a bit less to stay here and win. His play may have tailed off a bit, but I think he's still earning what he should. There are others on this team I can't say the same for. Either way I'm sure he will need to take less if he plans to stay here after this contract, but that will be his choice.

Brooks drives me crazy sometimes when he does dumb things but he's still one of my favorites at the end of the day and in the bigger picture. He's honest with others, and honest with himself and leaves his ego at the door.

Orpik is a decent top-4 defensemen who makes top-4 money. Not really a huge problem there. I wouldn't be surprised to see him retire a penguin. He took less before to remain with the pens, and I see him possibly taking a smaller amount again as he slowly gets bumped down to the bottom pair and eventually out of the game.

If it comes down to $$$ to resign either Iginla, Morrow or Jussi and he's the casualty... eh... I won't lose sleep.
His play has been very sub par this season.

Sometimes we turn on players too quick. Kind of sad really. Brooks has done so much for us fans, it is a shame to just "move on" so easily

I guess you are right, and plenty of athletes
Leave teams without thinking twice, but some, like Brooks take less to stay. I just think we should show some loyalty to those types. I love him as a player still.....

Leads time in hits and blocks and is a huge presence in the locker room.. Hes had a few underwhelming games but overall, I gots no problem with Brooks. Dude plays tough minutes against stout competition every shift.

I think people are looking too much for the big hits. Brooks is a pretty sound and solid Top 4 dman.

People are giving Orpik the Paul Martin treatment this year (which I guess is the typically Whipping Boy treatment)
