There is one option that is missing in the poll, which is for people who like to stick with what they like. The idea that people don't try new foods because they're 'afraid' doesn't fly too well with me. Maybe if we're talking about something like live insects, then perhaps.

There is also a difference between trying and actually eating something on a regular basis. I'd simply rather buy beef or chicken. It's part of my culture and diet. If I were born in China or Japan I'd be eating live fish or little live snakes or monkey brains or something like that, oh, or a dog, and it would be normal to me.

I personally don't even enjoy seafood, unless we're talking about white fish prepared so well that entire 'smell' is missing.

Anyway, tif brings up a good point. A lof of the stuff being talked about isn't so exotic to others.

Maybe this thread should focus more on things someone has tried and enjoyed enough to give someone else an idea to want to try it themselves.

You made a thread that, from the get-go, accuses people of being afraid of something, which doesn't make any sense, and it seems that you find yourself, at least in your mind, on a higher plane than others because of food you eat. What's it to you what other people eat anyway? This whole thing is wrong. No one is afraid of 'food' unless it moves, so that option in your poll shouldn't even be there. What you should have there instead is "I like to stick to my favorite dishes".

You could have made a thread named "interesting new foods to try" instead, actually.

There is nothing to protest. I don't agree with the OP's initial assumption that if someone doesn't go out and try new foods all the time, they're somehow afraid of 'food'. That's not only accusatory, but also stupid.

For me, personally... I like to stick to my favorite foods. If I like something, I'll keep eating it. Pittman first calls me a lady for that and then continues to stand his ground on his stupid point #2 in his poll. Never even asks if I had snail or snake or whatever, just jumps right on me.

I saw whale and grasshopper on the list. Why the hell would I even try that. What, a new dish, some whale blubber? There are things people eat in other parts of the world that are just not worth trying to a guy from europe/usa like me. If you guys feel adventurous enough, be my guests.

Yeah, from what I know about froggy, there's no poll option for his POV.

I'll try most things if offered in small doses. I wouldn't go order a plate of alligator, but I'd try a bite of someone else's. I guess "adventurous but guarded" would describe me.

I like mayo a lot. I'll put tripple mayo on my sandwich sometimes and if I have some sweet peppers, like those sandwich topper things... omg. I don't like miracle whip. btw, mayo by itself is disgusting for some reason, but good in a sandwich.

The Euros are on to something when it comes to eating french fries with mayo. It’s really good. And the Japanese put mayo on all sorts of stuff that we normally wouldn’t, like pizza for example: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/1 ... 95421.html
