i think it has to be a defensive player first round - LB, anywhere DL or any DB (pretty much entire D...)

i will be very annoyed if they stay in their current position and take a WR. whatever player they take at that position will be a stretch if thats the case. as idoit alluded to - keep the RB pick (if any) to mid/late rounds.

Some thoughts...

The run on tackles at the top of the draft this year is going to be pretty incredible, and speaks as much to the quality of linemen in this draft as it does to the lack of skill players. I wouldn't be surprised to see Dion Jordan fall with his injury concerns, and Geno Smith is plummeting.

It sounds like Vaccaro has a minor criminal history, and has a tendency to overbite on play-action, so I think he'd be a good fit here. Really don't want them to draft Eifert...at all.

I wouldn't be that opposed to Xavier Rhodes.

depending on how the draft falls together Eifert could be a good pick. He could play a similar role to Hernandez in NE and give Ben a big red zone target. Plus when Heath gets back having two options at TE increases the possible targets on offense and can offset having shaky WR depth (a la New England). If they draft him people will probably make a big fuss and then he'll be a cult hero like Heath in 2-3 years.

Again this is all depending on how it all shakes out. I'd like to see Jarvis Jones picked but I think he could be gone by then. I'm also really high on Lattimore as a 4th rounder. The ACL's are a concern but not as much as they used to be. I also wouldn't mind a late floater on a big arm QB with upside but needs some work (ex.Bray/Glennon) that could develop over time.

-Jarvis Jones
-Kenny Vaccaro
-Barkevious Mingo

Pretty convinced it's going to be one of these three unless someone completely unforeseen falls to them. Lacey has been brought up as well but drafting a RB in the first round is normally a huge mistake unless he's Adrian Peterson.

Also, don't buy the reports of a TE. That makes zero sense...
The idea of a DT also makes little sense.

I am hoping Xaiver Rhodes will still be on the board at 17. Some mock drafts have him lasting to the middle of round 1 some much earlier. I would love the idea of a line backer but we always seem to find good ones in the 2nd round.

Id go linebacker (round 1), safety (round 2), WR (round 3), RB (round 4).

I think they go for the "playmaker" types on defense, since we haven't been able to create turnovers the last couple of years...I'm hearing Kenny Vaccaro alot in our mocks, that makes sense if he's still there...

I doubt they do this, but i'd love to see them pick up Warmack or Cooper in the first round, they may be gone anyway - the interior offensive line would be set for years. Or at least for the duration of their rookie contracts haha.

If Vaccaro is around the few picks before the Steelers pick, the Cowboys will probably move up to get him...unless they do it to get Cooper. I expect them to trade up a bit, but they're not goigng to jump all the way up to the top 10 again.

When it comes to draft stuff I usually stick to http://walterfootball.com/draft2013_1.php. Good info, solid mock drafts, blah blah blah, etc. If the Steelers draft turns out to be anything like his mock draft, I'd be very happy.

1.) Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia
2.) Kevin Minter, ILB, LSU
3.) Philip Thomas, S, Fresno State
4.) John Simon, OLB, Ohio State
5.) Josh Boyce, WR, BYU
6.) Malliciah Goodman, DE/DT, Clemson
6.) Denard Robinson, RB/WR/KR, Michigan
7.) Ryan Griffin, QB, Tulane

Lots of help on defense. Lots of young talent on defense. Boyce isn't a tall receiver, but he's a quick playmaker with good hands. Robinson is improving as a receiver, but already has the athletic ability to be a playmaking return man. I'd like to see the Steelers get some help at RB or WR maybe a little early (in this mock they narrowly missed out on a couple guys, namely Eddie Lacy), but I would be pleased with a draft like this.

Wow Jarvis Jones... Most drafts have him going much higher. Would be very happy if he fell to 17, seems like a stretch. X. Rhodes or K. Vaccaro would be nice additions to the secondary.

He played in the SEC of 1-AA football. He also had 3 INT in his first college game ever, one of which was a TAINT to end the game.

He can cover, catch the ball, hit, tackle, and run back punts. Draft him, cut Ike, win titles.

Now that we brought back Gay and Spaeth, are there any other crappy backups we kicked to the curb looking for work?

at 17 i hope they just grab the best non-qb on the board at that point, they need impact players on both sides of the ball. if they have a choice between guys they rate as relative equals i'd hope they get a lb or a corner, but dont reach for one.

I think they're hoping for Jarvis. I still hope they trade down and get another 2nd. Take the S from LSU in the 1st. OLB and one of the backs in the 2nd. Or OLB and Minter in the 2nd.

1- Troy misses way too much time anymore. And Troy and Ryan are long in the tooth.
2-Steelers have always found quality LBs in all rounds.
3- The drop off from top safety(s) to next tier is probably greater than the other positions.
But as I said before, I hope they trade down twice in the 1st round.

Agree with taking Vaccaro; losing Ryan Mundy will have a significant impact because of the time these guys miss.

IMO, we should shift the entire defense to a nickel base and convert Troy to the nickel corner and let him play all over the field. It will require less hitting and more tackling, and put him between receiver and football more often, but you need another talented safety to take his place.
