Game 47 vs Devils - Thoughts from the Morning After

Postby Penspal on Fri Apr 26, 2013 8:18 am

Pens lose 3-2

- It was a meaningless game. Chances to hit were passed up, & it understandable (don't get injured), but that is a crucial part of the Pens winning game plan.
- Penalty trouble proved costly. Morrow's penalty, while unfair, was coming. He's been straddling that line & the refs were bound to catch up with him
- Morrow's imitation antics were funny, gif anyone?
- Devils deserve credit, they kept the puck in the Pens zone for long periods. Stevie Sullivan's intimate knowledge of Pens defensive game came into play
- While I do not condone fighting, a guy like Engellend has a roster spot because of it, but he's not playing tough enough imho (clearing crease especially)
- Jeffrey must have read the "He can't play 4th line role" posts. He had some solid hits & seemed to grind well along the boards. <-- ERROR, but leaving it
- Can someone re-assure me that Tanner Glass is a playoff monster. I've tried all year to quantify his value to this team, the numbers and his play just don't add up.
- I hate Kovalchunk. It goes back to his pointing from the penalty box year's ago (Thrasher days).... PLUS, he always scores on the Pens. Enjoy the golf course Ilya
- Jokinen's goal was oldschool Pens. Anyone else feel like there have only been 5-6 break aways this year? Great pass, better shot.
- Malkin's game is dynamic, but it is not North South. He is missing his shot BIGTIME.

All I can think of is Kovalchoo now that you brought up the pointing from the penalty box.

I actually really like Kovalchuk. I didn't care about this game to the point that I stopped watching it when the Pens were still up 2-1. I heard the goals from the other room though. I wish they would have played like they meant to win one of these last 3 games. I don't like coasting into the playoffs. Good news is that aside from the lack of physicality, didn't see anything to be concerned about.

BINGO, no sound on the game early for me & I mixed things up as they changed numbers. I thought it was insane that DJ was hitting so well! I stand corrected. Hey, I'm allowed a few mistakes along the way....

my thoughts...when do the playoffs start and when is everyone coming back?????

this game and next game are meaningless, you could tell the pens were passive and i have no issue with that. Came out of it injury free thats all that matters

I really prefer thinking of Kovalchunk golfing. Wait, what better than this pic (I know, we are off topic, but I'm not one to police this thread)

I think that reports are pointing to a Wednesday start as Sunday is the last game (Sens - Bruins make up game).

MAF did a great job keeping it close, but the team looks rather uninspired except for Malkin.

The Devs with Kovalchuk are a much different team than the ones without. A playoff caliber team for sure.

Really done with this "It was a meaningless game" crap. The team has been getting out shot for quite a few games and has been getting outplayed for large stretches during games. The majority of their goals have come off the rush. They're running on pure talent right now and it's not working.

Get Iginla off the left side, he's clearly very uncomfortable there. He and Geno were starting to develop some nice chemistry with him playing on the right and now DB is changing stuff up again... I'm most likely just an uneducated fan but he and BB looked lost out there.

Geno had chances to bury and didn't. Even towards the end when Bennett got him that point blank shot, so many times he gets that, this time he didn't. I'm glad he is getting playing time before the playoffs, he needs to start zoning in.

I think to me, I am glad that he isn't killing it right now, he may flip the switch when we need it vs now when we clearly don't.

Only other thought was already addressed. It was funny to watch everyone avoid hits. Letang had a few beauties. You could almost see DB sitting on his shoulder going "NO!".

Flipping the switch does not work well for the Pens...or any other team that I can think of.

I know, trying to be optimistic. If you want to know how I really feel, I think the team plays better without Geno but nobody wants to hear it so just pretend I didn't say it.

Let's trade for a hall of fame career RW, and then force him on the left side where he clearly looks uncomfortable! What could go wrong?

Pens operating in a 'we don't NEED a win' mode for the past few games.
Could be difficult to shift into a higher gear come next week but only time will tell.
Understand the importance of playing in "safe" mode but still need to manage the puck (i.e., Letang turn-overs).

Jokinen deserves better than the 4th line come playoff time.
