Penguins vs Capitals are basically a lock for ECF.

Both teams are in good form, but I think the Rangers will be a tough matchup for the Caps. Rangers in 6.

Anyone who watched the Penguins in 2006-2007 knows exactly what to expec from the Islanders. A very talented, very young team who had a decent amount of success during the regular season and goes into the playoffs a very confident team.

Gets into those playoffs totally unprepared for them. Completely surprised at how the level of play goes up significantly in those playoffs.

My bet is that we get the Isles, and that they go down in five.

The gods have been kind to me and my client for this week cancelled. Therefore I'm going to be on Long Island the entire week.

I'm praying that we draw the isles.

As an out-of-town fan, I'm hoping to play a US team so that it's more likely NBC Sports televises the games. Say what you will about the quality of the broadcast, it's better than watching on a small computer screen. Bring on the Isles.

I don't really have a preference, but should we end up playing Ottawa, it would be amazing if Bylsma gave a speech about how the Senators threw their last 2 games because they wanted to play us. "They wanted us. Well, they got us."

I know the Pens don't engage in that kind of stuff, but would be an epic trollface.jpeg

I think NYI have more ability to upset if they get on a roll. Fast, fearless team. OTT has more talent, but not as much heart. Pens can stomp on those kinds of teams.

I want the sens. Too many of their core players are young with little experience. Want an easy 1st round opponent to build momentum. Isles always are hard to play for 2 periods and then lose it in 3rd. I want easy 3 periods of hockey each game :D

The Senators will need to make a point to avoid another march with the Penguins this spring. Ff they fail to get any points, then they'll face the No. 1 ranked Pittsburgh Penguins in Round 1. If the Senators beat Boston, they'll face the Montreal Canadiens. If they lose in OT or a shootout, they'll face the Bruins

~ from the ottawa sun.

flyers still impacting the pens fate with their win last night ;) I think the isles , as somebody yesterday wrote, could be like the pens of 07...happy to be there, totally in over their heads. The NYI won't get the attention as the nyr receive. Tavares and nabokov are stars. Back in January, I thought this team could make the play-offs.
Spezza and Alfie have had some great games against the pens, but C Phillips is getting older.
With whatever team, there will be storylines for the fans and media.

However, there is huge disparity between the top teams in each conference now. Last year, LA was an extremely hot team with a great goalie. This year...can you tell me that Minnesota, NYI, or Ottawa are that hot or have that good of a goalie?

I'd hardly call a Pens-Caps ECF a lock. Caps could easily lose to the Rags. And of course, it's not really worth worrying about the conference finals until we get through rounds 1 and 2.

I feel like there is a significant drop off after the Pens and again after the other top teams... But anything can happen.

Bring on either.

Islanders would probably be more of a track meet.
Senators would be more of a grind it out series.

I expect (as we all should) to win a series over either team. I would say because experience means something come playoffs, Ottawa would be a harder out.
Only the pens can beat themselves in round 1 as far as I'm concerned.

Maybe not, but Rangers/Capitals(would be a 6 seed in points if not for being div winner)/Detroit/San Jose could be those teams.

Ottawa is only more dangerous due to their goaltending, but the Pens should be able to dispose of either team with no major issues.

My only reasoning for wanting the Isles a little more than Ottawa is that I think the Ottawa series would be very physical and I'd rather not have to physically worn down if they have to play the Rangers, Bruins or Habs in the 2nd round.
