Would you use light or dark rum with the mint ginger ale?

Tom Tucker mint ginger ale was invented in Pittsburgh, probably why you pretty much only see it around here.

Mission Orange ring a bell for our older posters? And yes Children's Palace was amazing for a younger FC44. But seeing Santa at Hills was always a fun time. GC Murphy's, Ames, Murphy's Mart all those stores.

I guy I worked with back when I was an A/V technician in college grew up as a neighbor to the lead singer of the Clarks, and he always said that guy was a d-bag who once stole his skateboard when they were kids. Every time a Clarks song would come on my coworker would curse at the radio and yell “Gimme back my skateboard!”

My mother would buy Faygo for us because it was some of the first sugar-free stuff on the market (made with saccharine back in the days where it still had a cancer warning).

The Hills at the Clearview Mall in Butler closed an hour after the rest of the mall, so when my family would go shopping we would all meet up in Hills after everything else closed for the night. They did have the best slushies.

Mac, you need to go to Trader Horn. I think this place would be your heaven.

Trader Horn is awesome. I never get out of there without spending at least $50, even if I walked in some something that should only cost a buck. It’s a combination of an old-school small-town hardware store with the old concept of a “five and dime.” They sell tools, plumbing and electrical supplies, hardware, gardening stuff, furniture, food, pop, small appliances, books, craft supplies, ammunition and sporting goods, automobile stuff like oil and wipers, and a bunch more. They also tend to have all sorts of neat gadgets and off-brand stuff you never see anywhere else.

ALL UP NORTH SON. They have like 6 locations in the northern burbs and up as far north as Grove City.

The closest to you I would guess is in McCandless near the old Showcase Cinemas North which is probably meaningless to someone from the south/Fayette.

There's a Trader Horn off McKnight Road by what used to be Showcase Cinemas (which is now owned by Rave)

I'm not originally from around here so I don't do many/any yinzer things, but my in laws , especially my mil are super yinzers from Butler. We Central PA people get the worst of Western and Eastern PA I think.

Enjoying the discussion on the old discount stores, sad that we're down to Wally World and the surprisingly still around K-Mart.

How many perishables must the Super K Mart in Robinson have to pitch? Anytime I'm in there, there might be another 10 people there.

Used to be Hills, Jamesway, Ames (not so long ago, pretty crappy stores).....

Been in all of them. I can also add Zayre's, Fisher's Big Wheel, and Montgomery Ward. I clearly remember buying Pac-Man for the Atari 2600 at a Big Wheel that used to be in Butler (boy what a disappointment that game was). I think it's now a furniture store.

Can't say as I'm surprised, unfortunate because there's never anyone in there and they are never out of anything.

I missed Big Wheel apparently. Don't know that any of these were in Pittsburgh but there was also Bradlees, Caldor, Nichols.... sure I could think of more

There was a Winky's in Greensburg. Big rumor of the time was the burgers were made of kangaroo meat.

Winky's makes you happy to be hungry...
