72% of responders picked Rangers. That seems crazy to me.

Pens & Blackhawks could be the only higher seeds to win depending how these game 7's go, as sloppy as they played I think that shows how difficult predicting the playoff is

Was that low or high? I can't believe this series is still going and that the Caps are still alive.

always get a bit nervous posting about the Caps, it seems everyone on here can obsess about them, but me. However; since I live here and watch them, IMO the Caps have outplayed the Rangers 5 on 5 and obvioulsy are getting a ton less Power Play opportunites.

Why are you so surprised they are still in this?

Because they aren't good. The Rangers aren't good either, but they're better. Caps wouldn't have made the playoffs if they played in any other division in hockey.

So if the Rangers a better, and the Caps somehow win tonight, what does that mean about the Caps? Nothing?

It means they made it into the playoffs and won round 1. I don't understand your question. Your obsession with the Caps is perplexing, but regardless of what happens this series, they aren't a threat to win the cup, they simply aren't a very good team.

Not going to get into this with you. If you did a simple search on this forum, you will see a ton of posts about the Caps, not made by me. Yet when I ask a simple question based on your comment about the Caps, I am obsessing.

Just forget it. It is really not that important, I was just trying to understand your point about being surprised that the Caps are still in this.....something beyond "they just are not that good"

Now if I would have posted the gif about OV loafing, I am sure I would have gotten the same response about me obsessing....

I got the 1 vs 8 seeds in both conferences spot on, but depending on tonights games, could miss the other 6 matchups completely!

As far as winners, I was perfect in the West, 1-1 so far in the East.

I thought 72% was very high because, you're right, neither team is very good. But, the Caps were playing some of the best hockey in the league down the stretch. The Rangers did not have any stretch this year that gave me any confidence that they could beat a playoff team 4 out of 7 games. Mediocre penalty kill against the league's best powerplay. I think that at worst the series was a coin toss. Which, if that is the case, 72% seems like a high number for either team.

think about the posters on this board though... all fans of an atlantic division team. the atlantic division has historically been the best division in the eastern conference (this year I'd argue the northeast was better, but still...), and many see the southeast as the worst division in the east (rightfully so). Does surprise me that over 70% of the board, myself included thought the Ranger would win.

The southesast is statistically the worst division in hockey. Capitals record against the rest of the conference was not good, they piled on wins and points against their own crap division. When it comes down to two teams that aren't that good, and one of those teams has the best goaltender in the sport...you come up with 72% of people picking that team.

The rangers stunk it up going into the playoffs. The Caps were the hottest team in the league.

King Henry the best goalie in the sport? Why? He's never won an OT playoff game, or any game of significance in the NHL for that matter.

I would've picked the capitals. I'm sure the 72% is solely people picking based on Holtby vs Lundqvist. Which is definitely reasonable, but i don't think their defensive group is playing as well as it did last year and i think the caps have a stronger group of forwards.
