Josh Yohe ‏@JoshYohe_Trib 46s
Ray Shero nominated for GM of Year along with Marc Bergevin and Bob Murray. No info regarding whether Bergvin and Murray have conceded yet.

He deserves the nod. Mind you, he is about to face the most diverse offseason of his career (as a Penguin) coming up. With the salary cap going down and pieces of his prized core coming due with contracts. It will be interesting how he handles it all and still ice a contending club.

If the past is any indication, I have no worries.

What is on either Bergevin's or Murray's resume aside from hiring a new coach. I can't think of even subtle moves either team has made.

After what he did at the trade deadline, he should have been all three nominations

Bergevin:
- Hired a very good coaching staff including bringing back Therrien (took balls there).
- Signed Brendan Prust who turned out to be a very much needed tough forward for them.
- Took a hard stance with contract negotiations on PK Subban. Not bad for a rookie GM.
- Fleeced the Dallas Stars in a Erik Cole for Michael Ryder deal. Not only did they get a more productive forward this year in the deal, they also shed a horrible contract in Cole.

Murray:
- Signed Getzlaf and Perry to franchise deals.
- Found Viktor Fasth.
- Not sure if the Gabby hiring would be considered this year, but still a good move.
- Acquiring Lovejoy was a good move.
- Ducks emerged as 2nd seed in the West, surprising stat for sure. Many had them competing for a playoff spot.

All in all, this is a Shero vs Bergevin award. Shero has to be a favorite with the super moves he did at the deadline and the Jordan Staal trade.

He'll make deals with the other 2 for draft picks instead. ;)

Bergevin will win the award, and Shero will get a 2nd rounder and a conditional pick in return.

A lot of Ducks fans thought Lovejoy has turned into a really decent defenseman...surprisingly.

I give Shero major points for not only his deadline deals, but for getting another starting goaltender. Vokoun kind of came in handy last series.

Yeah I thought Bergie had a nice rookie season as GM. I thought he handled the Subban situation as well as it could have been handled. I'd be satisfied with either Shero or Bergie.

I wonder if Bergevin will trade Subban to the Flames for a couple of firsts. They're probably still good enough that they don't need to rebuild, right?

Shero is so impressive that other GM's can get nominated just by picking up his leftovers.

Joe Nieuwendyk is waiting for his nomination. Oh wait. He got canned because he gave his left nut to Shero.

Lot of non-Pens fans angry about Shero's nomination...

"They're the Yankees of hockey!!"

"They took advantage of rebuilding teams!!"

Your tears. So sweet.

The award is still unnamed, should probably just be named the Ray Shero award. Another good option would be the Mike Milbury award.

I envision the Mike Milbury award being drawn with crayons and hung on the winners fridge

I love when people started comparing them to the Yankees and Heat. The majority of this team is made up of draft picks, trades, and waiver guys. The only FA Shero generally signs are 3rd/4th line guys or low teir 2nd liners.

It remains to be seen whether the one move Shero didn't make will undo all the goods that he did.

The PENS are in the driver seat. Ray is smart enough to recognize this and is an excellent driver.
