Only glasses you need are pint, tulip, and snifter.

Yeah, you definitely want to use a glass. Can't see or smell the beer otherwise. Smelling is half the battle and definitely unlocks more nuanced flavors.

I'm definitely turning into a glass snob since about the beginning of the year.

I really like the floral aroma and nature of IPA's and the spigleau thing is really great about pronouncing that scent and flavor. I'm really glad I went ahead and bought that thing. I have some full pint tripa's that i'm going to enjoy out of that.

I agree with that for the beers that I drink, but if I were a bigger hefeweizen drinker, I think that would probably be one that I'd want to add. I don't know that pilsner glasses are sufficiently different from a standard pint glass to be necessary. The IPA glass is pretty clutch for me because it allows me to participate in a lot more of the local/regional options.

Snifter and tulip are the most essentially, though.

I don't understand the ipa glasses. It seems like a normal pint works fine for all standard ipas. Is it just something you use for doubles? Because I don't see much advantage over a pint, snifter, or tulip imo.

Nor do I understand it, but it does impact the taste of the beer

if nothing else, I have a few more beer glasses to add to my collection that I have now. I very rarely drink from a can or bottle (unless it's macrobrews).

I picked up this glassware set a while back from Bed Bath & Beyond:
http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product ... 9&RN=2519&

The glasses are well made and cover the vast majority of styles. It is a little redundant to include both a nonic pint glass (the one with a bulge around it) and a willybecher pint glass (the tapered pint glass), as they mostly serve the same role. If I were putting the set together, I’d swap out the willybecher pint glass for either a chalice or the cylindrical glass used for kölsch.

I really dislike chalices. I have this set from Spiegelau: http://www.amazon.com/Spiegelau-Beer-Cl ... =spiegelau

They are nice. I can't believe how thin Spiegelau makes their glasses. I will say that like a more well-defined tulip, though. The Ommegang or Unibroue tulip I have is probably my favorite tulip. My snifters I just bought at Crate & Barrell. I'd like to get a Spiegelau snifter one of these days.

Ha, I am really salivating because of the D.C. trip next week. I think I've settled on buying the Fantôme Extra Sour saison and Anchorage Galaxy White (Belgian) IPA bottles.
Hopefully I can get one of the hop heads in attendance to buy the Anchorage Bitter Monk Double IPA so that I can nab the bottle.

I am Mr. Mom this weekend, so its going to be a long wait to get through to next weekend. I do have an Orval Trappist that I'll probably drink tonight.

Yes, two benefits. You get to taste more of the beer, and you get to be "that guy" at the party.

Had Unibroue Maudite in a snifter glass last weekend, draft. It was excellent, again.

Been a while since I have had Orval Trappist Ale. Might actually be the beer I recommend as a bridge to saisons for hop heads.

This one is about 2 years old, and as I recall some of the sweetness and fruitiness I remember is gone probably because the brett has had a chance to go to work on it. I would have expected more funk since it is brewed with brett, but it is still pretty tasty. Not overly hoppy but leaves a little more bitterness on the tongue than other saisons.
