David Beckham announced his retirement. From football, in case you were wondering.

Surprising. I figured he could whip in crosses from the right until he was about 45.

It's not like he could lose a lot of speed.

Ha, I like this way of putting it. I'm not sure how long it's been that it's seemed like his main career wasn't on the field.

They were destined to go down last season and as a result fired Mick McCarthy. I think he is a decent coach (despite a horrible Premier League spell at Sunderland) who they should have stuck with.

Not sure which number is least surprising- ManU never getting whistled for a penalty or Pool leading the league in shots off target. Also the goals/game stayed the same, but the number of goalless draws have gone up in the last two years. I blame Stoke.

Since the current "Premier League", Blackburn has been a first division team with a title...although that was quite a while ago. The Wolves have only spent a handful of seasons above the second division in the past two decades.

Left back.

116: Leighton Baines created 116 goalscoring chances this season, 12 more than any other player in the Premier League.

Historically, Wolves are much more successful than Blackburn. In the 1950's, a Wolves game against a Hungarian side basically led to the formation of what is now the Champions League. They were one of the first English clubs to participate in the competition. Robert Plant is a fan and Vice President of the club (not really relevant but a cool fact imo).

Blackburn were Man City or Chelsea of the mid-90's. It was to a much smaller scale, much less money was spent, the talent was mainly British, and their success was shorter. Rovers were only promoted in '92 and then were relegated in '99. Essentially they bought the title in the 94-95 season (they waited 81 yrs to win it). Recently, they have spent more years in the Premier League than Wolves have though.

Both clubs were members of the original Football League.

Just saw that Man City and the Yankees are teaming up to create an MLS expansion team in NYC. I'm torn about this development. This is obviously a lot of money and clout coming into the league, which should be good. However, I worry that owners with this much money will push the league to raise the salary cap to such an extent that the smaller market teams can't be competitive anymore. I want the level of play in MLS to keep getting better, but I don't want it to turn into the EPL, where only a handful of teams have a realistic shot at winning.

My dislike for Ribery & Robben are causing me to cheer for Dortmund (along with other things) right now.

The only thing worse than Gus Johnson would be if Ron Cook announced this game.
