According to Rossi:

The Penguins believe Letang will want at least $7 million annually and closer to or above $8 million.

San Jose has some decent players and Robinson to work with him.

If he wants that much, you Jordan Staal him before the draft or day of draft.

Seven million a year for a defenseman that has redefined the term "regressed" in regard to his defensive performance and makes a power play worse when he is quarterbacking it? Enjoy one of the other 29 cities in the NHL.

I'd trade him if that's his price. Letang's a special player but the Pens will have to make some sacrifices with the cap coming back down and Malkin also to sign. Malkin's got to be the number one priority. They also have a pipeline of young D that make it hard to justify tying that kind of money into another defenseman.

They got a pretty good haul back for Staal and I'd imagine Letang's value will be even greater. That's a good opportunity to recoup some assets after they moved some to beef up the team before the deadline.

Trading him would hurt a lot because of how integrated he is into the offense and the PP. He's a perpetual motion machine, a great skater and he soaks up a lot of minutes that won't be easy to replace...but this postseason wasn't his finest hour.

Kris has made it known he wants to go play with his brother, the longer and more unwashed looking haired Skip Letang.

Based on some other contracts - and that Letang is just now coming into his prime, I can definately understand why his agent would try to get that.

This is just the never ending shuffle game that GM's have to play with the cap etc. If we trade Letang for some great propect that pans out as well as 58 has, he too will want 7-8 million per year. But I guess they will worry about that later, and these are good "problems" to have.

The good thing is that Letang would command a nice package return of picks/players/prospects - not bad for a 62nd overall draft pick....

Oh, and see ya Letang for that price.
Thanks for all the heart attacks.
I truely believe that if he focused on defense and not ever set foot in the offensive zone, he'd be dynamite.
As it is, he's not worth it.

Seems a bit too much, but he is only 26 and is obviously relied on heavily in terms of playing in all situations and the minutes he eats. He was certainly poor in the playoffs. I don't have a good answer for this one.

Not only "no" but hell to the no.

Pens have a pipeline of defensemen in the minors and Letang can't QB a power play. Those are my two biggest reasons for saying adios. He may play better defense under a different coach or more specifically a different system, but the Penguins purposes, they can't allocate that much cap space to Letang.

I like him more than some other people based on this thread, but anything north of 6.5mm is too much in light of our cap situation.

There aren't 29 other cities. New York has 2 teams.
