Will Bylsma still be the Pens coach after today?

Postby The Current One on Wed Jun 12, 2013 6:44 am

Sadly, I think the answer is yes. The country club remains!

Unfortunately I agree.

And I am absolutely shocked that that may be the case.

Absolutely shocked!

We should have a separate thread about it with a poll.

I don't get why it's such a bad thing to keep Byslma around. There are worse coaches out there and very few better ones, if any.

I think the statement in the paper about how Shero "made a strong push for an extension" for Bylsma.... that has saving face written all over it. Maybe it's something, maybe it's nothing, but my guess is Bylsma is gone.

Yes, Shero needs a buddy to hang with at concerts.

To me, that says the guys writing the checks are at least thinking about it which is good.

Shero's meeting at the CEC lasted from 7 a.m. until "late in the evening", according to Rossi, which explains the concert sightings.

No. They praise Bylsma and his staff, but in the end will "decide to go in another direction" and won't retain Reirden or Granato either, because a new head coach (Ruff..) should have the right to pick his own staff (Hynes..).

I don't know that it has "saving face" all over it, but, to me, it sounds like there was a significant amount of explanation/defending that needed done, which would indicate that the owners didn't agree with Shero. Rossi was vague, which easily can go either way. My gut says he stays. My brain says he goes.

Really getting ahead of myself here, but could the meetings have lasted so long because they were reviewing their alternate choices for who could replace Bylsma -- possibly even making some phone calls? This 12-hr day of meetings included some disagreements and some solutions -- it wasn't all peaches and cream.

Nothing attributed to anyone in that piece, as per the norm.

I refuse to listen to another Dan Byslma press conference. I can't take it anymore. Those concert pics make me want to vomit.

If Bylsma is gone, so will the assistants which is a shame. Tony Granato is the man. His work with our PK has been rather good.

Who can forget him defending Bylsma and going after Peter Laviolette.

I think he is gone. You don't need to meet that long to say, "we're good with Dan". Someone asked 'why change'? The answer is that we have tremendous pieces to the puzzle, we just need a better game day tactition and the past several years and Isles and Boston series clearly illustrate that Dan cannot adapt his game plan.

He looks great during the regular season when teams do not take the time to design systems to beat us. During the playoffs, his poor coaching becomes painfully obvious.

@RobRossi_Trib 7m
#TribHKY last i heard, not all in #pens ownership group were keen on extension for Bylsma. But nobody wanted him replaced, either.

What has Ruff done that makes him good? Had one good Buffalo team that made a run and... Coached for a really long time. I am not impressed.

Maybe it will prove to be the right decision, if they make it and he succeeds. At present, it seems a bad idea because he has won one Stanley Cup and lost four times to lower rated opponents. Most recently, his team was made to look like a low-ranked team against a playoff-inexperienced Islanders roster, and was swept by a Boston team that allowed just two goals in the entire series. Say what you want about Boston's goaltending or the Penguins' shooting percentage -- a large chunk of the blame for such a terrible defeat lies on the coach.

To me, that means that the debate between Shero and the owners wasn't "Fire or don't fire." It was "Run out his contract or offer an extension."
