Can't keep trading young defenseman though. That just depletes that strength and actually makes the Pens weaker in negotiations with Letang. That has a lot more negative to it than positive.

I agree you can't keep trading young defensemen in trades for rentals (Morrow), but in this deal you get a young, starting caliber goalie. You still have 3-4 more in the pipe line, in addition to anyone you bring back if/when you trade Letang.

Despres is our only young NHL-ready defenseman (Bortuzzo isn't exactly a lock, or that good) and we would then have:

Bernier
Fleury
Vokoun

I'd rather trade Fleury.

lol Fleury is a Penguin until his contract runs out. This is a make or break year for him as a Penguin. If he responds to the new goalie coach and reaches a level that we expect and performs in the playoffs he stays. If he doesn't then the Penguins look into free agency or other avenues (the depth at the position of the team). You don't trade players at their lowest value, that gets you peanuts.

You won't be getting an upgrade to Fleury by trading Fleury.

What about a Kris Letang deal centered around Marc-Édouard Vlasic? Does San Jose have the ancillary talent to put together a deal? Would they even be interested. Dan Boyle is getting up there in age and he's a UFA after next season.

Looks like you've got Letang going to LA for Bernier and Penner. How are you getting Kane? Plus that D crop has a very weak bottom half. Also, paying Dupuis $3 million to play on the third line seems a bit much...

It was Letang for Kane and picks/prospects
Penner is UFA
Bernier is RFA so i made the 2.5mill offer that might be a 1st or 2nd rounder i can't find the RFA compensation list
I'd trade MAF to whomever will make a deal, getting the best Picks/prospects hopfully forward depth.
Scuds is UFA

i'm not saying this is the situation, but it's certainly possible...

jonathan bernier and matt cassel may have a lot in common.

Penner sucks and JJ is better being bought out than making 2.1M on our 4th line

i may have to look into it but i think Carolina is paying half of that 2.1 on JJ might be just the money and not cap hit but i thought it was cap too, especially after Ray mentioned it again today.

Pretty sure he was making $2.9 million per season prior and the reduced portion is $2.1 million.

After today's events, I made the following adjustments...

Kris Letang to Winnipeg for Zach Bogosian, Evander Kane and 1st Round Pick

Matt Niskanan traded for 2nd rounder (If Doug Murray is worth 2 2nds, Matt Niskanan is at least worth one)

Re-signed Craig Adams to 1 year deal
Re-signed Brenden Morrow to 1 year, $2,000,000 deal

Signed Cam Barker to a 1 year deal

There's no way Winn does that. Maybe Letang and Neal for that but no way just Letang.

This is assuming that a basis for an extension for Letang is in place.

Why do you feel that this is too much? Considering Kane has been asking to get out of Winnipeg for a while now.

Extension or not they're not moving a top 6 wing, a top 4 D, and their first rounder for one player.

Honestly, that is pretty close to what I would expect to get for a Norris-nominated franchise defenseman. We got a very good young 3rd line center, a blue chip D-prospect, and a high 1st round draft pick for a 3rd line center who limited his trading options to a single team.

Cam Barker was mentioned? He might be the worst player in the NHL (if he's hanging around still). And I'm not exaggerating. He was bad in the AHL with Texas even...he's so awful and he has some off ice issues that augment that which we don't need to go too deep into...

Meh - I just threw his name out there because he was cheap, younger and was a more defensively-oriented player.

Sub out his name for Mark Eaton.

Barker is Marc-Andre Bergeron bad defensively, for future reference (not that you'll ever need to know that name again, unless it's a trivia question about 3rd overall picks)...

Eaton is better.

Why would one think Hartzell has value. If he wanted to sign some place else, he would have. You generally don't trade players like that...
