Russian player priority

Postby Scott on Wed Jun 12, 2013 4:45 pm

I think that Shero needs to make a serious attempt to bring in a Russian player. When Gonchar left I said he was getting too much on the open market in a sense but on the same note I also said he was worth the extra money here to keep Malkin warm and fuzzy.

Malkin is not an empty sweater out there because there are no other russian players on the team...however it does have to be extra hard on him not having anyone in that locker room from his mother land.
Ever since the departure of Gonchar I haven't seen a bad Malkin but rather a more moody Malkin.?. Something I preached would happen if they didn't address getting another fellow countryman to at the very least sit beside him in the locker room and the plane. Malkin is too valuable to the Pens to be having such mood swings. Bringing in another Russian player could help with this.Maybe not and maybe that is Malkin just being Malkin but at this point it is worth a shot.

After getting Malkin signed this needs to be another priority for the summer.

Replace "Russian" with "Czech" and "Malkin" with "Jagr" and we'll go all the way back to the country club thing that the fans apparently hate - at least, according to the discontent in keeping Bylsma.

That said, we drafted Anton Zlobin...that's good enough for me, unless another Russian actually fits this team.

EVER SINCE GONCHAR LEFT HIS SMILES/60 ARE AT AN ALL TIME LOW

WHEN YOU ADJUST FOR QUALCOMP, ITS EVEN WORSE. HES NOT EVEN FACING THE FROWNIEST DMEN ON THE OTHER TEAMS.

Malkin has been great and really does not need coddled in this fashion. I can see taking a Russian if all other things are equal, but not as an ends.

Well, if they replaced Bylsma with a Russian coach that didn't speak English then we should get a little worried. :fist:

Heh, and I assumed you were talking about drafting his grandson, Maxim (2015 eligible).

^ RIP Ivan. Maybe Jaromir will give a few thoughts of appreciation to him tonight.

Vlad Tretiak around the penguins would be awesome. No one on the penguins could get him to Pittsburgh.
Gene would be the go between Flower and TRetiak. Makes the regular season exciting. ;)

Seriously?! One of our priorities after signing 71 should be to get him a warm body from Russia to sit next to him and keep him happy. :face:

Yes, sir. MHL regular at the age of 16. Youngest goalie in the league.
