Fleury's Playoff Stats the last 4 years

2009–10 Pittsburgh Penguins NHL 13 7 6 — — 798 37 1 2.78 0.891
2010–11 Pittsburgh Penguins NHL 7 3 4 — — 405 17 1 2.52 0.899
2011–12 Pittsburgh Penguins NHL 6 2 4 — — 337 26 0 4.63 0.834
2012–13 Pittsburgh Penguins NHL 5 2 2 — — 290 17 1 3.52 0.883

Irresponsible and stupid, k. I'm sure a Patrick Roy like career renaissance is right around the corner.

I'm basing my opinion on performance and statistical fact, not some pie in the sky hope that if he goes on prozac or watches more film, he's going to turn into some world-beater goalie. He's just not that good, period.

Sergei Bobrosvky posted a whopping 3.02 GAA and .898 sv% with the Flyers in 2011-12. He got dealt to Columbus, their goalie coach (Ian Clark) got him to make a few changes - most notably, play deeper in the crease and stay more upright in the butterfly - and he's all but won the Vezina just one season later.

A good coach can really help a pro athlete, regardless of the sport or position. Why do you think every PGA player has a swing coach? How about pro tennis players having coaches?

Code: Select all
Goalie statistics:
Detroit: Chris Osgood — 28 saves / 32 shots
Pittsburgh: Marc-Andre Fleury — 55 saves / 58 shots

I'll always remember that game. Fleury's greatest performance.

Hopefully we'll see some of that next year.

well, they also know they can't trade flower for much if at all, maybe ramp him up for a hopefully better season next year so he can give pens at least some trading potential...

How are you going to replace his regular season production at this point? Don't say Vokoun/Hartzel.

I know people are fixated on the playoff performance, but you have to play well in the regular season to set yourself up for the playoffs.

(Of qualified players.. must play at least 27 games)
2009-10 31st in save %, 22 in GAA 33rd in shutouts
2010-11 13th in save % 8 in GAA, 20th in shutouts
2011-12 26th in save %, 12th in GAA, 24th in shutouts
2012-13 16th in save %, 15th in GAA, 27th in shuouts

Its not like he's ever been THAT great during regular season... then he gets exposed during the playoffs. Dude just might not be that good..

edit: Before the whole "BUT THE PENS SYSTEM HURTS HIS NUMBERS":
2003-04 JS Aubin / Andy Chido had better GAA. JS Aubin had better save %
2005-06 He did lead all Pens goalies this year
2006-07 Thibault / him had identical GAA, Thibault had better save %
2007-08 Conklin has better save %
2008-09 He did lead Pens goalies this year.. Curry had better save % / GAA (Granted this was in 3 games, so a little cheap / won't count)
2009-10 Johnson has better save %.. not counting Pechurski because only played 1 game
2010-11 Johnson has better save % / GAA
2011-12 He did lead Pens goalies this year
2012-13 Vokoun has better save %

So his numbers appear below average, AND his backup usually puts up better numbers......... I'm starting to not understand the whole "GREAT IN REGULAR SEASON."

you are right, if anyone can do simple stats analysis then it should be more than obvious that he really isn't good as the all the hype, in fact he is barely average. he's probably just one of those guys who gets overly nervous; might help to try mental drugs (ritalin, prozac) and some yoga. I really want to know what coaching therapy they are going to give him, hopefully a psychological one too.
