I don't see any team offering a draft pick for Tanner Glass.

I'd think all 29 teams would give the pens a draft pick to KEEP Glass at this point.

If Toronto is paying Colton Orr more money, there is probably an interest for Glass somewhere.

That's my belief, as well. It won't be until closer to the season, I would imagine.

Are we really valuing Fleury and Letang that highly?

I would consider Letang to Minny for Brodin, Clutterbuck, and a 1st a decent deal - maybe they'd have to chip in more.

Though i don't really see much of a benefit to trading fleury anywhere

Underpayment from MIN?? That would be an amazing return. Look at the goalie deals in recent years. I'd be utterly shocked if Fleury had that kind of value.

i'm wondering what the value is for a pending UFA who isn't predisposed to sign with your team next july. would letang just be an extended rental, or is there real value in being able to negotiate with him early?

There is a huge value. As the trading team, you now have the ability to offer that 8th year on top of having the entire year to negotiate.

Good point made by Joopen. The new CBA has definitely increased the trade value of players entering their last year of a contract.

I don't know if people realize just how much the real deal Brodin is. He's already a defensive stud, as a rookie averaged over 23 minutes a game this season at age 19, and will only get better. His value is through the roof right now, and it's completely justified.

yeah, good point. i didn't connect the dots that, one way or another, letang's getting a max year deal, and that 8th year could be significant. though realistically, right now he'll get something like 7-8 mill in that last year. he could still, conceivably, get 7-8 mill in his next deal as well - especially since the cap will probably go up in 7 years. so on one hand, i'm sure he doesn't want to leave anything on the table, and wants that 8 year deal. but on the other hand, if shero deals him to some junky team, it still may be worth it to jump ship and get a 7 year deal in a more palatable city.

Wasn't Brodin partnered with Suter?

Not to say he isn't the real deal, but that's quite a partner to have protecting you.

Not for the cost of Brodin they wouldn't...kid is an absolute stud and he's only 19 or whatever, ridiculously wise beyond his years...

I'd love to have Torres, but from what I've read he really wants to stay on the west coast.

No to Torres. A million times no. Guy is a terrible person on the ice. He makes Cooke look like Marty St. Louis. Most dangerous player on the ice, has been suspended in the playoffs twice in the last 2 years.

What he brings just isn't worth it.

Nisky and Glass to Calgary for Sarich
Letang and Juicy to Buffalo for Ehrhoff and Ott (They're looking to rebuild, get a Norris caliber D-man, unload a long contract, and Juicy is off the books after next season)
Re-sign Dupuis for a light raise, Morrow and Murray for less than they were making (could get more elsewhere but I'm hoping they want to stay badly, Morrow isn't worth 4M), and Adams for the same.
Sign Colby cheese to round out the roster, 4th liner PKer (Sid's best buddy discount obviously. :pop:)
TK re-signed at a 4th liners price since his last contract was signed after a 20 goal season and based on potential of sticking on the top lines but obviously that hasn't happened, Pens have the leverage here cause he's an RFA.

Otter shifts to wing and helps Geno in face-off situations
Ehrhoff rebounds because he's not supposed to be "the guy" anymore. That title is now Martin's

His contracts the last 3-4 years have all been about next year. That is why Pens only have 6 guys (one being an EL) signed beyond next year. They have all been designed over the past half decade to make sure it was possible to at least try and sign Crosby/Malkin/Staal/Letang long term. All 4 of those contracts start or would have started this year or next.

Also, looks like Brygalov is going to be on the open market... I wouldn't mind a Vokoun/Bryz tandem next year, if a team like Florida wanted to make a jump at Fleury.
