Tried Brooklyn Monster Ale Barleywine tonight. Definitely one of the better BWs I've had. It was MUCH smoother than the Sam Adams BW I tried last summer and tasted much better as well. I can't drink these kind of beers in quantity, but at 10.1, that's a good thing.

Out of curiosity, does anyone else on here use Untappd? I didn't really start to use it until recently, but I like the fact that I can have an encyclopedia of the beers I've tried at my fingertips.

I was in a specialty beer store here in Tulsa and was looking to stock my hotel fridge with some 'after work treats'.

They stocked a wide variety of Great Divide beers and I picked up a growler of their Espresso Oak Aged Yeti imperial stout.

WoW! I will order this anytime a have the chance. It was absolutely fantastic.

I looked through the beer thread and the only person that I saw mention it was Bandhands71. Y'all should definitely try it if you ever get the chance.

I'm going to be paying closer attention to badhands choices in the future. ;)

Badhands knows her beer.

I haven't tried Yeti yet, but it is on my list, especially one of the barrel aged stouts. I've had the Hercules DIPA, also by Great Divide, and it was excellent.

The Yeti is really well made. Strong but smooth and complex.

Thanks Guys! I take pride in knowing my beer. :thumb: I'm glad you enjoyed the Yeti EPP, it's such a smooth beer for the punch it packs.

On a side note, I'm really mad at Great Lakes Brewery. I'm not the hugest witbiers in general fan in the world but there are a few times during the summer when nothing else quite quenches the thirst. The one Belgian White that I loved was/is Holy Moses White Ale. That stuff hit the spot. Anyway, Great Lakes is making it brewery only beer and not bottling it. I'm so disappointed!

Anyone had Holy Moses and able to help me find a suitable replacement? The closest I've come is Grateful White by Rivertowne but it's still not the same.

For all of you hop heads, what temperature do you prefer for your IPAs? I had a Hop Devil last night, and I definitely preferred it as it warmed. I think I'd probably do like an out-of-the-fridge-onto-the-counter-for-10-minutes temperature, which I figure is around 45+ degrees.

Please post a review.

This was solid. Less funk, more floral, a bit more bitter than the standard Saison Dupont. I'm liking hops more these days, but I still prefer my saisons to be fairly low on bitterness. I liked the Oxbow Farmhouse Pale Ale much better in this direction, and I would go with the classic over this one going forward.

IPAs I prefer to be pretty chilled. DIPAs, a touch warmer.

prefer my IPAs to be ice cold.

However, ratebeer.com recommends serving it at a "cellar temp" (54-57 F)
http://www.ratebeer.com/Story.asp?StoryID=479

Beer is best served in between “ice cold” and room temperature. There are a lot of generalization made about beers of different colours, most of which are false. However, when it comes to temperature, colour seems to make a big difference. Lighter-coloured beers are generally best served cold. At the warmest end are the big, dark beers like Quadrupels, Imperial Stouts and Barley Wines. At cellar temperature are English-style beers and in the middle is just about everything else.

Very cold (0-4C/32-39F): Any beer you don’t actually want to taste. Pale Lager, Malt Liquor, Canadian-style Golden Ale and Cream Ale, Low Alcohol, Canadian, American or Scandinavian-style Cider.

Cold (4-7C/39-45F): Hefeweizen, Kristalweizen, Kölsch, Premium Lager, Pilsner, Classic German Pilsner, Fruit Beer, brewpub-style Golden Ale, European Strong Lager, Berliner Weisse, Belgian White, American Dark Lager, sweetened Fruit Lambics and Gueuzes, Duvel-types

Cool (8-12C/45-54F): American Pale Ale, Amber Ale, California Common, Dunkelweizen, Sweet Stout, Stout, Dry Stout, Porter, English-style Golden Ale, unsweetened Fruit Lambics and Gueuzes, Faro, Belgian Ale, Bohemian Pilsner, Dunkel, Dortmunder/Helles, Vienna, Schwarzbier, Smoked, Altbier, Tripel, Irish Ale, French or Spanish-style Cider

Cellar (12-14C/54-57F): Bitter, Premium Bitter, Brown Ale, India Pale Ale, English Pale Ale, English Strong Ale, Old Ale, Saison, Unblended Lambic, Flemish Sour Ale, Bière de Garde, Baltic Porter, Abbey Dubbel, Belgian Strong Ale, Weizen Bock, Bock, Foreign Stout, Zwickel/Keller/Landbier, Scottish Ale, Scotch Ale, American Strong Ale, Mild, English-style Cider

Warm (14-16C/57-61F): Barley Wine, Abt/Quadrupel, Imperial Stout, Imperial/Double IPA, Doppelbock, Eisbock, Mead

Hot (70C/158F): Quelque Chose, Liefmans Glühkriek, dark, spiced winter ales like Daleside Morocco Ale.

I believe they are auctioning some off at House of 1000 Beers either this coming weekend or on some future weekend. Not a fan of Ho1kB doing that, but I guess its as good a way to get the limited stuff to the customers as simply lining up at the door early.

Not a fan of them auctioning beer either.

If you want it to be fair, have it done lottery style in front of the crowd, but that is also possibly less profitable.

Hmmm....pay $5 to enter a raffle (which they keep) and then pay a pre-determined bloated price for the actual beer.
If it were some crazy specialty item of interest, I probably would do that.

@Kraftster

I went back to that gas station that has this:
http://www.boulevard.com/BoulevardBeers ... mhouse-ale

Their description of grapefruit and pepper is pretty dead on.
It's definitely lighter than the 3-4 other saisons I've tried, but....hey, it's 85 degrees.
With your recent interest in hops, you would probably enjoy this variation.

Yum. House of 1000 Beers is doing 20% off all 22 oz+ size bottles next week. I will have to stop in to see if they have any.
I love the really peppery stuff.

I know I've mentioned it before, but Smuttynose IPA is awesome.

On a side note, I'm becoming a big fan of Duck Rabbit Brewery.

Picked up a six-pack of Weyerbacher Old Heathen Imperial Stout (I have the air conditioning set to 68 degrees, so it's okay 8-) ).

Really pretty good. A little metallic, but not so much as to degrade to other flavors. Almost a bright chocolate up front. It's hitting the spot right now.

Three Floyds alpha king is delicious, a lot of flavor packed into this pale ale. Also had some goose island 312,green line and honkers in Chicago. All were fine.

I went with the Allagash Curieux and Ommegang Rare Vos. The latter seemed especially delicious.
