Draft Day thread 2013

Postby FallenHero96 on Sun Jun 30, 2013 1:00 pm

Needs to be one so I made one. I'll start with the Russo rumor I just read:

I've been reporting that the asking price for Cal Clutterbuck today has been a second and a prospect. I hear one concept the Wild has explored the past few days is getting a defenseman back in a trade for Clutterbuck.
One team that has shown a lot of interest the past few days is Pittsburgh. The Wild has had interest in the past in Simon Despres, but the one guy I keep hearing is Virginia, Minn., native Matt Niskanan.

Also, the Wild had the first trade of the day - defenseman Justin Falk to the New York Rangers for a 2014 sixth-round pick and the rights to right wing Benn Ferriero.

San Jose may add a depth forward. Hearing Cal Clutterbuck as a possibility for the Sharks. #TSN

Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun 4m

Tyler Kennedy in play by the Penguins. Could be the type of forward San Jose is after

moving Kennedy and Niskanan for some mid round draft picks would be a nice way to save some cap space

I think you can get by with a DMan group of Letang/Despres, Martin/Orpik, Engellend/Bortuzzo/one of the young guys like a Dumoulin filling out the 3rd pairing

Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun 1m

Said one NHL team exec on the draft floor: "I bet you we see 10 trades today at least."

Jeffrey can go too. TIOPS says Jokinen can be had as well.

TIOPS also mentioned that Dupuis's agent said he's a 5 million dollar player  I don't see Duper coming back.

I like Jokinen.... he's a utility guy who can pretty much play anywhere

he can fill in for Crosby/Malkin if/when they get injured

he can fill a role as a top 2 line winger to start the season if they cant get a 6th guy

he can play on the 3rd line with Sutter and whoever else

I think he's worth keeping around for another season.... he's a great insurance policy and utility guy

I liked Jokinen in his time here. Does he kill penalties though? If Duper is gone and Cooke probably won't be back then that leaves us short.

I'd have no problem trading Nisky for Clutterbuck.

Kind of amazing that Duper put up more points in 48 games this season than he did 2 of the last 3 years in 81 games

All's quiet on Clutterbuck front now. My sense is if something happens, it'll be late in first

I don't think anyone is interested in IGGY's rights after seeing his slow old uninspired play in the playoffs.
