Where will Bennett play?

Postby WHITEY1 on Wed Jul 03, 2013 11:00 am

With Dupuise resigned and Geno also already having a RW where will Bennett play? Does he try to make the switch to LW over the summer? Or will DB play Neal out of position?

Dupuis-Crosby-Bennett
Kunitz-Malkin-Neal

It's a pipedream of course, but I think Sid and Bennett would be a solid combo.

One thing that really stood out to me about BB in the playoffs was his physicality. I know he still needs to grow into that frame, but I was impressed with some of the big hits he laid against Boston. If he can bulk up this summer, he could really have a breakout year next season. I am all for putting him with 87 and 9 and reuniting the Kunitz - Malkin - Neal line, but like many of you, I see it as a long-shot for that to happen.

Beau will be on Malkin's LW.

The best spot for him would be on Sid's line but you never ever break up the best line in all of hockey - 9/87/14

Based on how lines change all the time in-game...especially with coaches like Bylsma...it's not a pipedream at all.

If Tangradi started last year with the big guns, then BB will certainly be given the nod this year...with Neal and Malkin

Bennett will be floating around in the top 6. He's a natural RW though.

Seriously though...having your top-6 forwards (Malkin, Crosby, Neal, Kunitz, Bennett, and Dupuis) and your true #1 defenseman locked up for at least the next 4 years (assuming Bennett signs at least a 2-year extension when he hits RFA) is something very few teams can say.

Not counting what bump Bennett might get...we did all that for ~9 million in raises over what each of them were working on in the previous contract. I think that is something to tip the cap too. (pun intended)

Except that in 2 years 2 of those forwards will likely be 3rd liners, expensive 3rd liners.

Bennett will slot in fine somewhere in the top 6. I could also see him lining up on the RW next to Sutter this coming season if there is someone else capable of playing LW with Sid or Geno (Jokinen?). Bennett compliments Sutter very well. Add in a physical LW and that is a potent line, offensively and defensively.

If Cooke walks, anyone know what Morrow is looking to sign for? 2 Years/4mil? Can we even afford that?

can we not have a board referendum to agree that all proposed line combinations should be presented in lw/c/rw format?

They'll probably start him on Malkin's line. But he'll probably move around the lineup, maybe see some time with Sid, maybe see some time on the third line ( :scared: ), hopefully they work him into the top PP unit to get a right-handed shot in there. For those that want change, working Bennett in full time next season will add something to this team. He really impressed me last season no matter what line he was on. That's a sign of a good player.

bennett will only get 1st unit PP time when someone inevitably gets injured. i think we saw last year that he's already the top understudy.

Bennett will play with Malkin most likely, but I think it also depends on Jokinen. If the Penguins hold on to Jokinen, we could see them toggled on that line.
