But at less then $3m per. If he could get him at $2-2.5, that'd be sweet.

Since all there has been to talk about has been cap hits and whatnot, check out the list of the highest cap hits for next season. There are some serious overpayments on there, as well as some steals.

http://www.capgeek.com/leaders/?season=2013&type=CAP_HIT&position=-1&limit=50

In my opinion...

Overpaid:
---------
Perry
Staal
Getzlaf
Heatley
Gaborik
Campbell
Vanek
Semin
Koivu

Steals:
-------
Datsyuk
Sharp
Toews

That's the softest blueline in the league in a few years.

I'm perplexed how someone makes such a leap?

Harrington, Pouliot, and Dumoulin have all shown an ability to skate in physical games through their development. Maatta may be the biggest question mark in this category so far, but not nearly enough to throw up a red flag.

What do you define as "soft"? Anyone not named Scott Stevens?

Plus Letang is anything but soft. Orpik will likely retire a Penguin. And Bortuzzo will be a bruiser, especially as he gains confidence in his game.

I wonder if there's any way Jamie McGinn could be pried away from Colorado in a trade?

I honestly cant tell if serious.

Mark Eaton is a good, veteran, bottom pair, regular season defenseman.

He couldn't play 1 second in the playoffs because of his speed. He be good for some dumb team like the Panthers for half a season or something.

His career is basically completely over beyond that...

edit...and this is REALLY bad because Bortuzzo and Despres need the playing time.

Kunitz (3.725) - Crosby (8.7) - Dupuis (3.75)
Bennett (.900) - Malkin (8.7) - Neal (5.0)
Jokinen (2.1) - Sutter (2.06) - Iglina (3.0)
Glass (1.1) - Vitale (.550) - Jeffrey (.650)

Letang (3.5) - Despres (.840)
Martin (5.0) - Orpik (3.75)
Murray (2.5) - Bortuzzo (.625)
Engelland (.566)

Fleury (5.0)
Vokoun (2.0)

Total = 63.85
Cap = 64.3
Free = .350

edit -- if not Iggy then Cooke I guess.

So explain why you keep making these lineups with only 350k or less under the cap and only 21 players...... IF YOU'RE THE GM YOU'D BE FIRED !!!

23 man roster
keep some space under the cap

I say we trade Niskanen for a pick, save $2.3MM and sign Scuderi.

Orpik/Martin
Letang/Scuderi

Awesome....

I was just thinking I bet Shero's next move it to lock up Orpik longterm. Would be awesome if he would take a contract similar to what Kuntiz signed.

Pens have proven that they don't want to rush Despres. Although bringing back Scuderi is a long shot at best, I think he would be a great addition and could possibly be paired with Despres as well. A good mentor, veteran leader...

I'll let Disco come up with the pairings :D

If It looks like we are not going to be able to extend Orpik I would try to sign Scuderi. But honestly I believe Brooks will take a homer discount and resign for close to where he is at right now. FA D is so thin right now everyone out there is gonna be overpaid. I wouldn't be surprised to Ferrence sign for 4mil.

I would take Engellend out of the picture just like what we did with Kennedy, Lovejoy, Testube, etc.

Despres should be top 4 we need to know if he can do it.

What does Engelland have to do with whether or not Despres plays in the top 4?

Engelland is nothing more than a 3rd pairing guy.

I'm surprised some have suggested Harrington making the squad out of juniors. The kid is gonna be a solid pro in a couple years. He needs time in the "A". Wouldn't be surprised if Philip Samuelsson grabbed some minutes on the 3rd pair this season. The guy has steadily improved and adjusted to the pro game. Saw WBS quite a bit last year. He was their best D man most nights. Solid positionally, not overly physical like his old man, but plays a snotty type of game. Moves the puck well.

Dumoulin may get a shot, although he looked lost quite a bit last year. I'm sure he will adjust with more time.

Nisky and Glass gone to Col for McLeod + 4th rounder
Engel gone to whoever wants him for a 6th or 7th

Stalberg at roughly double his current salary

This is where the hate comes. Komisarek and Ballard to the Pens on cap friendly deals ala Jay McKee because they're going to be getting paid from buyouts.

My Custom Lineup
FORWARDS
Chris Kunitz ($3.725m) / Sidney Crosby ($8.700m) / Pascal Dupuis ($3.750m)
Jussi Jokinen ($2.100m) / Evgeni Malkin ($8.700m) / James Neal ($5.000m)
Cody McLeod ($1.150m) / Brandon Sutter ($2.067m) / Beau Bennett ($0.900m)
Viktor Stalberg ($1.500m) / Joe Vitale ($0.550m) / Harry Zolnierczyk ($0.660m)
Dustin Jeffrey ($0.688m) / Benn Ferriero ($0.700m)
