Drummer here, can confirm.

Lars probably did that in multiple takes on the cd too. That's why they hardly every play it live, and when they do he sure doesn't do double bass the whole way through consistently.

Metallica is my favorite band, but most modern metal drummers could play that track pretty easily.

4th time I saw 'tallica was 09 in Sweden (Sonisphere) and they played Dyer's Eve for the first time ever in Sweden. Pulled it off nicely too.

Defunct PA band that existed in PGH and Philly:

Judging from the 118 view-count, they will forever remain obscure.

New Pearl Jam single I was drooling over earlier. Seriously if you are a PJ fan you'll love this song. Best song they have put out in years.

And coincidentally ive been trying to find ticket prices for Pearl Jam in Pgh for 20 minutes and still can't find crap. If someone could post prices....well that would be swell.

I don't know what the gen public prices will be. I'm in Ten Club and our prices are about $70/per. Those are floor seats or 100 level. Interestingly, they are doing GA for the front half of the floor, on the whole tour.

And yes, the new song is killer. There are a ton of things I like about it, but an overlooked one may be the backing vocals. Some pretty melodious backup for such a punky track.

Ben to the rescue. That is a killer song though, im hoping this album is more like the Binaural/Riot Act PJ era. But yes...I will be at this show. Im forcing my gf to go.

Actually one of our favorite things to do is to "fix" songs like this by making them into hard rock tunes. We do it with Rolling in the Deep by Adele and Bad Romance by Lady Gaga. This isn't a bad idea at all...

Our drummer is good but he's not a metal guy. When I was drumming I was able to play Battery but I haven't drummed in years

Picked up the new Rob Zombie album and listened to it driving work to get ready for tomorrow. All I have to say is "wow". His past 3 albums have been sub-par, but this one is awesome. Just a fun album with heavy riffs and really enjoyable. Definitely pick it up.

Really? Are you a drummer? Cause....it is. That's constant 36th notes on the double bass. It takes quite a bit of skill to pull it off.

Yeah....that's fast.....

This isn't all that fast. I'm not sure if you are limiting this conversation to particular styles of metal but there are MUCH faster drummers out there, namely This and I'm sure there are even faster technical quys out there. Gene Hoglan routinely plays faster than Lars and he is only 4 years younger than Ulrich!

I more of a fan of "feel" than "speed", when comes to drumming/musicianship; though I can appreciate speed metal, etc.

Oh jeez, we're not about to start a "Who's the fastest at double bass" argument are we?

As a guitarist I can say that fast does not always equal better. However, most of the time....it does :-)

A friend of mine does an amazing recreation of double bass with one foot.
I have no idea how he does it....then again, I always sucked at drums.

Just putting "fast" within context. And really, you should just play mach 2 and be done with it :)

If you can handle the song, listen to My Fears Have Become Phobias by As Blood Runs Black. The double bass in that song, dear lord...that's fast.

Reminds me of Glass Casket in a few ways.

I've been drumming for 16 years, the double bass is the weakest part of my set, so it always blows my mind when dudes can kick like that.

I've been a "drummer" for almost that length of time and always had a double pedal. I've only just now started to get better with constant double kicks after a good year of longer distance jogging. Muscle control is everything! One of my favorites to jam to is Terminal Diety. Not fast, but it is enough to keep your chops up. Honestly, a great investment is one of those practice pad stations. Hook up your double kick pedal and practice for hours without bothering anyone.

Yeah, my biggest issue has always been endurance. I can go for a bit, but I mostly use them for making more fills throughout my playing. My roommate is NUTS at it, best heavy metal drummer I know personally. He always says "If we could put my feet with your hands and creativity, it'd be an amazing drummer." We have our sets in the basement facing each other and do some funny exchanges.
