This looks good, have not heard anything about it until I saw the trailer today. Definitely looks like it was filmed in Western PA.

I can't tell you how many times I've yelled "Dive my hawk-men! Dive!" while my team is breaking the puck out. So funny considering how close to Star Wars it came out around.

looking around I see there is a book called "out of this furnace: A Novel of Immigrant Labor in America" set in Braddock and reading the synopsis it doesn't appear to be directly related to that movie, but the book sounds pretty damn interesting.

Yeah I was just reading the discussion on IMDB and people are flipping out over it apparently not being related to out of this furnace. People saying its their favorite book and have been waiting for it to be made into a movie.

I went and saw Pacific Rim at Loews last night.

First, Bar Louie seems to have shrunk their glasses. It's been a tradition of mine and some friends to go there for $3 draft happy hour before movies on opening night. I'm not sure it was even 12oz, definitely not a pint.

I bought my ticket via Fandango online just in case it was crowded/long line/etc. I went to a 2D showing and there was a fairly small crowd for an opening night. But to be honest, the tv spots say it "opens" today, that was just a late preview. There was also the IMAX 3D and digital 3D presentations going on at the same time.

It was pretty cool! It took bits and pieces of the movies that have been hits over the last few years and used the best ones to its advantage. Some of the concepts they used were kind of original and were interesting.

The characters were a bit more multidimensional than they could've been and it was cool to hear Idris Elba speak in his normal [British] accent.

My only "gripe" is that I wish they would've given a few basic rules, like Terminator's time travel rules (no moving parts or complex chemicals), as to what could and couldn't kill a kaiju. It wouldve helped their movie logic. I'm not sure why I had trouble buying some of the ideas - must've been the smaller glasses at Bar Louie.

I'd say it seems pretty kid friendly too in case you're wondering. 5 is probably the lowest age I'd take in.

Another observation (and I want Tifosi's opinion) is that it was another Media Ventures score - thats Hans Zimmer's crew that all kind of cowrite scores together that all sound the same. Lots of electric guitar, drum samples, digital production, etc.

This isn't really a complaint because I do like these kinds of scores but I wonder what (and when) will shift directors/producers/studios back towards the Jerry Goldsmith/Johns Williams style. Even guys like Alan Silvestri and Patrick Doyle are being pushed towards the Media Ventures style.

the bartender told me she thinks its becoming a Burgatory. It's totally gutted/demolished right now.

Does anybody ever eat/drink AT Loews? I went to a buffet they had the night ROTS came out. Once on a date I bought reserved seats so we could take drinks into the auditorium and I think another time we had a few there before a movie.

Its seems the auditoriums I usually see films in (esp the IMAX) don't have reserved seating and won't let you take alcohol in. I would definitely do that more often when I'm there since I remember buying a beer (forget what it was) and it cost LESS than the similar sized diet coke that was full of ice.

Their curly fries are good, I usually try and go for Mitchells before or after a movie. I like rock bottom as well, but usually too crowded

Taking my 7 year old boys to see PR this weekend at Loews. This movie seems like it will benefit from the 3d IMAX because its about GIANT FREAKING ROBOTS.
